CMT Department Engineer

Job Overview:

We are searching for a CMT Department Engineer to lead the evaluation and inspection of construction materials, ensuring they adhere to project specifications, industry standards, and safety regulations. This position involves supervising a team of technicians, conducting quality assurance on materials such as soil, concrete, and steel, and collaborating closely with project managers, contractors, and engineers to ensure project success.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct and oversee field and laboratory tests on construction materials, including soil, concrete, aggregates, and structural steel.
  • Analyze test results to ensure materials meet project specifications, industry standards (ASTM, AASHTO), and regulatory requirements.
  • Coordinate with contractors, construction teams, and project managers to ensure timely completion of testing and inspection.
  • Prepare and review project reports, summaries, and data analysis for clients, ensuring clarity and accuracy.
  • Supervise and mentor field and laboratory technicians, ensuring proper testing methods and protocols are followed.
  • Ensure adherence to safety standards and procedures during fieldwork.
  • Implement and maintain QA/QC processes for construction materials and testing procedures.
  • Provide recommendations for improvements in testing procedures or materials to enhance project quality.
  • Collaborate with design engineers, geotechnical teams, and other departments to provide feedback on material performance and suitability.
  • Prepare technical reports, including analysis, recommendations, and summaries of material testing results.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Geotechnical Engineering, or a related field.
  • PE (Professional Engineer) license.
  • Certifications in materials testing (e.g., ACI, NICET, ICC) are preferred.
  • 5+ years of experience in construction materials testing, geotechnical engineering, or construction engineering.
  • Proficiency in materials testing methods and standards (e.g., ASTM, AASHTO, DOT).
  • Knowledge of testing equipment for soil compaction and concrete strength.
  • Familiarity with software for data analysis and reporting (e.g., AutoCAD, Microsoft Excel).
  • Strong project management and organizational skills.
  • Excellent communication skills for client interaction and report preparation.
  • Leadership and mentoring skills to manage and train technicians.
