Job Description
With general direction, performs basic to high-complexity calculations, modeling, data analysis, and design support on site evaluations and other similar assessments for water distribution and related water resources projects. These may include distribution system water quality, water supply planning, climate change adaptation, integrated resource planning, irrigation, pressure conduits, resiliency, redundancy, and more.
Signs and seals designs and other work as necessary.
Provides technical guidance and training to junior staff and reviews their work.
Collaborates with business development teams to create proposals in response to client requests for proposals (RFPs). Reviews draft proposals to ensure compliance with industry standards, regulations, and best practices.
Meets with current and potential clients to assess their design needs.
Contributes to internal knowledge-sharing by developing technical white papers and design documentation.
Submits technical papers and designs for publication in industry journals.
Performs other duties as required.
Attends industry conferences and symposia to enhance the visibility of the company's services in collaboration with business development teams.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Environmental, Civil, Coastal, or Chemical Engineering or a related discipline.
- Professional Engineering (PE) license.
- 7 years of relevant experience.
- Equivalent additional directly related experience may be considered in lieu of a degree.
- Domestic and/or international travel may be required, depending on workload and project demands.
Preferred Qualifications
- Texas PE license.
- Experience in water modeling and master planning using Bentley WaterGEMS.
- Experience in water modeling and master planning using Autodesk InfoWater.
- Water master planning experience for mid-size to large water systems (100,000+ population).
- Water model calibration experience using fire flow tests.
Travel Requirement
- Approximately 10% travel may be required.
Skills and Abilities
- Expert knowledge in at least two of the following water distributionmodeling platforms:
- Bentley (WaterCAD/WaterGEMS)
- Autodesk (InfoWater/InfoWater Pro)
- Aquanuity (AquaTwin Water)
- Expert knowledge of GIS software and applications.
- Strong expertise in constructing, calibrating, and updating hydraulic models using GIS, billing, SCADA, and other data sources.
- Deep understanding of engineering principles related to design.
- Intermediate knowledge of hydraulics and water system planning.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, etc.).
- Familiarity with additional technical tools such as mathematical models and scripting languages.
