Basic Function
The Sales Engineer is responsible for developing proposals, bids, quotations, RFP responses, and other documents describing organizational products and services in response to requests from prospective clients. This role involves collaborating with internal contributors and subject matter experts to ensure content is complete, accurate, and maximizes business opportunities. Additionally, the Sales Engineer supports applications engineering activities, including preliminary process designs, CAPEX and OPEX inputs, block flow diagrams, and cost database management.
Typical Duties
- Determine O&M and capital costs for use in the Water Energy Purchase Agreements (WEPA) model
- Accurately identify CAPEX and OPEX costs for projects
- Input variables for WEPA modeling, including CAPEX costs, OPEX costs, taxes, insurance, etc., to identify target project returns
- Perform sensitivity analysis on proposed cases
- Identify project development incentives
- Work closely with Regional Sales Managers (RSM) to determine the best structure and approach for projects
- Develop preliminary process designs and create block flow diagrams
- Support FEL O review presentation creation
- Coordinate the collection and organization of exhibits and appendices for WEPA projects
- Develop standard process designs
- Manage and prioritize deal activities for the internal team (project management, engineering, field operations) to prevent delays in deal flow
- Manage the master product cost database
- Develop site inoculation and ramp-up SOP
- Draft site O&M manual
- Analyze site data for existing customer locations to improve overall system performance
Responsibilities
- Preliminary process design for each FEL-0 project to ensure all reactors and equipment are sized properly and selected economically, with CAPEX and OPEX within +/- 30% accuracy
- Generate WEPA model for each FEL-0 project with FEL-0 CAPEX, OPEX, and design-build cost and other inputs
- Prepare FEL-0 deal review slide decks
- Create WEPA exhibit documents
- Develop SOP for system inoculation and start-up
- Draft O&M manual for site operations
- Maintain and update the master cost database
- Analyze performance of WEPA sites
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in engineering or business with appropriate technical experience
- 5+ years of experience working with application and/or process engineering, preferably in the food and beverage or water and wastewater industry (both aerobic and anaerobic systems along with membrane treatment systems)
- Experience with financial modeling, commercial deal processes, and commercial contract terms
- Understanding of basic fabrication techniques
- Ability to multi-task, work in a team environment, respond to changing needs and conditions, adhere to deadlines, and work under pressure
- Proven ability to excel in a fast-paced, small-company environment
