Safety Director - Heavy Civil General Contractor
Location: Bozeman, MT
Salary: $100,000- $150,000 + Bonus(s)
Position Overview:
This company is a leading heavy civil general contractor, seeking a highly qualified and experienced Safety Director to join their team in Bozeman, MT. The Safety Director will oversee all safety initiatives, ensuring a safe working environment for our crews on heavy civil construction projects, including dams, earthwork, roads, utilities, and infrastructure development. This is a leadership role with a focus on developing and implementing safety protocols, conducting training, and ensuring compliance with safety regulations.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop, implement, and manage comprehensive safety programs for all heavy civil construction projects.
- Conduct regular site inspections and audits to monitor safety compliance and identify potential hazards.
- Lead safety training programs, ensuring all personnel are properly trained on safety regulations, equipment use, and site-specific hazards.
- Ensure compliance with OSHA, state, and federal safety regulations on all projects.
- Investigate and report on accidents, incidents, and near-misses, and develop corrective actions to prevent reoccurrence.
- Prepare and maintain safety documentation, including safety plans, risk assessments, and incident reports.
- Collaborate with project managers, superintendents, and field crews to implement safety best practices and improve safety performance.
- Coordinate with third-party safety consultants and regulatory agencies as needed.
- Foster a safety culture that encourages proactive reporting of safety concerns and emphasizes the importance of safe work practices.
- Manage safety-related reporting, including accident/injury statistics and trends, for management review.
Experience Needed:
- Minimum of 7-10 years of experience in construction safety, with at least 5 years in a leadership or director role.
- Experience in heavy civil construction, including roadwork, earthwork, utilities, and infrastructure projects.
- Strong knowledge of OSHA regulations, state and federal safety standards, and construction site safety management.
- Proven track record of reducing workplace accidents and incidents through safety initiatives and training.
- Experience conducting safety audits, inspections, and hazard assessments.
- Familiarity with safety software and reporting tools.
- Strong understanding of risk management principles and construction safety protocols.
Qualifications Needed:
- Bachelor's degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Construction Management, or related field (preferred).
- OSHA 30-Hour certification required; OSHA 500/510 certification preferred.
- Certified Safety Professional (CSP) or Construction Health and Safety Technician (CHST) certification preferred.
- Excellent communication and leadership skills, with the ability to train and motivate staff on safety matters.
- Strong organizational and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively with project teams and senior leadership.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and safety management software.
- Valid driver's license and the ability to travel to job sites as needed.
