Position Overview:
Our client is looking for a skilled Coastal Engineer to join their team. This position offers the opportunity to work on a variety of exciting coastal projects, including storm surge analysis, coastal structure design, flood hazard evaluations, and more. As a Coastal Engineer, you'll apply your technical skills in coastal processes, advanced modeling, and resiliency planning to deliver solutions that protect and enhance coastal infrastructure.
Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct detailed analyses of coastal processes, including waves, currents, tides, and sediment transport.
- Lead storm surge and coastal flood hazard analysis to support flood mitigation and resiliency projects.
- Design and evaluate coastal structures, such as seawalls, jetties, and breakwaters.
- Perform mooring analysis for waterfront and offshore structures.
- Utilize ArcGIS, MATLAB, and Fortran for coastal modeling and simulations.
- Contribute to FEMA coastal studies and assist with regulatory compliance.
- Collaborate with multi-disciplinary teams on coastal resiliency projects.
- Develop innovative solutions to address the impacts of climate change and sea-level rise on coastal communities.
Required Skills & Qualifications:
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Coastal Engineering, Civil Engineering, or a related field.
- Expertise in coastal processes, structure design, and hazard analysis.
- Proficiency in ArcGIS, MATLAB, and Fortran.
- Experience in storm surge analysis and FEMA coastal studies.
- Strong understanding of coastal resiliency strategies.
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and in a team-oriented environment.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Professional Engineer (PE) licensure in Virginia or the ability to obtain it.
- Experience in the design and implementation of coastal protection projects.
- Knowledge of the Virginia Beach coastal environment and regulatory requirements.
