Principal Environmental Planner

Position Overview:
We are seeking an experienced Principal Environmental Planner to join our Seattle office. This leadership role will focus on guiding and managing environmental planning efforts, particularly related to the State Environmental Policy Act (SEPA) and other regulatory frameworks. The successful candidate will have extensive experience in environmental planning, a deep understanding of SEPA processes, and the ability to manage and develop a wide range of environmental projects. A key aspect of this role will also involve business development, where you will play a central role in expanding our presence in the market and cultivating strong relationships with new and existing clients.
Key Responsibilities:
Lead and manage environmental planning projects, with a strong focus on SEPA compliance and related permitting.
Provide expert consultation on environmental impact assessments, including the preparation of Environmental Impact Statements (EIS), Environmental Impact Assessments (EIA), and other SEPA/NEPA-related documents.
Work directly with clients from state agencies, municipalities, private clients, school districts, and ports, ensuring regulatory compliance and successful project delivery.
Oversee and coordinate interdisciplinary teams, including environmental scientists, engineers, and other specialists, to ensure high-quality environmental assessments and solutions are delivered.
Supervise and review the preparation of environmental documentation, including SEPA and NEPA reports, technical memorandums, and other regulatory submissions.
Lead business development efforts by identifying and cultivating new opportunities in the market. Engage in client outreach, proposal development, and direct negotiations to expand the firm's portfolio.
Build and maintain long-term relationships with current and potential clients, acting as a key liaison to ensure high levels of customer satisfaction and project success.
Ensure that all projects are executed within scope, budget, and timeline, while adhering to environmental laws, regulations, and policies.
Mentor, guide, and provide leadership to junior and mid-level staff, fostering professional development and a collaborative team environment.
Lead proposal efforts for new projects, including scoping, budgeting, and technical input. Contribute to strategic planning and growth objectives for the company.
Qualifications:
Minimum of 15 years of experience in environmental planning, with significant expertise in SEPA and other environmental regulatory processes.
Proven experience working with a broad range of clients, including state, municipal, private, school district, and port entities.
Expertise in preparing and reviewing SEPA and NEPA documentation, including Environmental Impact Statements (EIS), Environmental Impact Assessments (EIA), and other relevant reports.
Demonstrated success in business development, including identifying new project opportunities, building client relationships, and contributing to the growth of the firm's market presence.
Strong project management skills, including budget management, timeline adherence, and stakeholder communication.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present complex environmental issues clearly to diverse audiences, including regulatory agencies, clients, and the public.
A proven track record of leadership and the ability to mentor and guide staff.
A bachelor's degree in Environmental Science, Planning, or a related field (master's degree preferred).
Ability to work independently, while fostering collaboration across teams.

Salary:
$170,000-$220,000 base salary, commensurate with experience and qualifications.
