Project Manager - Civil Construction

A long-established, family-owned construction company specializing in sitework, excavation, and earthwork is seeking a skilled and driven Project Manager to join its team. This individual will be responsible for leading and overseeing the planning, execution, and completion of civil construction projects across various regions. The role plays a key part in evaluating project costs, managing profit margins, and ensuring thorough execution of safety plans and subcontract agreements. Key Responsibilities

  • Manages all aspects of civil construction projects from initiation through closeout.

  • Oversees project planning, scheduling, and resource allocation to ensure timely and budget-conscious project delivery.

  • Evaluates project costs and profit margins, analyzing financial data to support profitability.

  • Writes, reviews, and manages subcontracts, ensuring alignment with project objectives and legal requirements.

  • Develops and implements safety plans in accordance with industry standards and company policies.

  • Collaborates closely with estimators, field supervisors, and clients to ensure clear communication and alignment on goals.

  • Monitors project progress, addresses risks, and makes necessary adjustments to mitigate delays or budget overruns.

  • Oversees subcontractors, vendors, and suppliers to ensure work meets established project standards.

  • Ensures compliance with all safety and regulatory requirements, as well as company policies.

  • Prepares and delivers regular progress reports to senior management, stakeholders, and clients.

  • Builds and maintains strong relationships with clients, engineers, and other key stakeholders to support project success and future opportunities.

  • Participates in business development by assisting with bids, proposals, and client meetings.


Qualifications & Skills

  • Experience: Minimum of 4+ years managing civil construction projects, with emphasis on sitework, excavation, and earthwork.

  • Technical Knowledge: Strong understanding of cost analysis, financial performance metrics, and margin management.

  • Contract Management: Experience writing and managing subcontracts, including detailed scopes, terms, and budgets.

  • Safety: Knowledge of safety regulations and the ability to design and enforce comprehensive safety plans.

  • Leadership: Demonstrated ability to lead project teams and manage multiple projects concurrently.

  • Communication: Excellent written and verbal communication skills for working with both internal and external stakeholders.

  • Problem-Solving: Strong analytical skills and the ability to resolve issues effectively.

  • Technological Proficiency: Familiarity with project management software (e.g., Procore, MS Project) and estimating tools; proficient in Excel.

  • Organization: Highly organized with the ability to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines.


Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or a related field.

  • Knowledge of regional building codes, regulations, and industry standards.
