A leading North American power generation and energy services company, with headquarters in the Mid-Atlantic region and offices throughout the U.S., is seeking a talented and energetic Business Development Manager to join its Retail Energy division. This company is committed to modernizing energy infrastructure by delivering cost-effective, carbon-reducing solutions with a focus on clean technologies and grid-scale renewables.
This position is a key member of the indirect Sales and Origination team. The ideal candidate will have a strong track record of exceeding sales goals and fostering long-term customer relationships.
The role demands a high degree of initiative, excellent communication and presentation skills, superior time management, and a self-motivated approach to driving results. The ideal candidate will bring an existing book of business, customer contacts, and a history of cultivating strategic partnerships and negotiating complex deals.
Primary Objective: Generate, negotiate, close, and manage electricity sales and energy services, with a particular focus on delivering branded sustainability solutions to C&I end-use customers through targeted broker and channel partner relationships.
This position reports to the Vice President of Retail Sales, with flexible office location options considered for qualified candidates.
Key Responsibilities
Meet or exceed sales quotas and targets related to gross/net margin and MWh volume.
Sell competitive electricity and sustainability products through indirect channels.
Identify new business through cold calling, networking, and referrals.
Conduct customer needs analysis to tailor sales strategies and offerings.
Develop and maintain long-term customer relationships and loyalty.
Deliver compelling sales presentations on products and services.
Effectively communicate the value and competitive advantages of the company's offerings.
Work with internal teams to execute strategic sales plans.
Represent the company at industry events to promote brand and network.
Monitor market trends and competitor strategies to position offerings effectively.
Maintain up-to-date knowledge of products, industry trends, and sales techniques.
Manage full sales cycle including CRM utilization, data collection, offer preparation, deal negotiation, and post-sale customer support.
Oversee and support multiple broker relationships, ensuring strong win-rate performance.
Recruit, train, and support brokers on products and value propositions.
Collaborate cross-functionally with internal departments to support operational execution.
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in finance, business, marketing, engineering, or a related field; MBA is a plus.
Minimum 5 years of retail electricity sales experience in deregulated markets, especially within PJM.
Familiarity with electric utility tariffs, retail product structures, PPAs, VPPAs, and sustainability offerings.
Proven success in meeting/exceeding sales targets in competitive environments.
Strong interpersonal, communication, and negotiation skills.
Highly self-motivated and able to thrive in a dynamic, goal-oriented environment.
Excellent organizational skills and ability to prioritize effectively.
Strong knowledge of energy industry trends, ESG strategies, and renewable development.
Demonstrated ability to cultivate professional relationships with brokers and customers.
Professional presence with strong customer engagement skills.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and CRM tools.
Experience in energy markets, renewables, or energy/sustainability consulting preferred.
Must pass a pre-employment background and credit check.
