Business Development Manager - Indirect Sales

This role demands high initiative, excellent communication and presentation skills, superior time management, and a proactive approach to achieving sales goals. The ideal candidate should have a strong network of business contacts to drive a pipeline of qualified sales leads. The position involves complex deal negotiation and strategic partnership development.

The main objective is to generate, negotiate, close, and manage sales of electricity products and related energy services, focusing on sustainability solutions for commercial and industrial customers through broker and channel partner verticals. The role reports to the Vice President of Retail Sales in Sugar Land, TX, with flexible office location options for the right candidate.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Achieve sales quotas and margin goals by selling electric commodities and renewable products through indirect channels.
  • Prospect and generate new business opportunities through cold calling, networking, and referrals.
  • Conduct research to understand customer needs and tailor sales strategies.
  • Build and maintain strong customer relationships.
  • Deliver effective sales presentations highlighting product features and benefits.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to develop strategic sales plans.
  • Attend industry events to promote the brand and build networking relationships.
  • Stay informed on competitors' products and strategies.
  • Continuously enhance product knowledge and sales skills.
  • Drive sales through CRM tools, negotiating deals, and managing broker relationships.
  • Support internal teams and train brokers on products and services.

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in finance, business, marketing, management, engineering, or related field. MBA is a plus.
  • Minimum 5 years' indirect retail sales experience in the deregulated electricity markets of the major ISO's, with emphasis on PJM.
  • Knowledge and understanding of electric utility tariffs, retail electric product structures, PPA's, VPPA's, and associated sustainability solutions.
  • Must have a proven record of success in achieving and exceeding sales targets in a competitive sales environment with superior knowledge of complex portfolio-style products.
