Studio Director - Multifamily, Mixed-Use, and Urban Planning | Denver

Role Summary

We're looking for a licensed design professional to lead our Denver-based Multifamily, Mixed-Use, and Urban Planning studio. This is a strategic leadership opportunity for someone with deep expertise in urban housing and community development who thrives at the intersection of design excellence, client engagement, and studio growth. You'll play a key role in advancing the studio's presence across the Southwest, Midwest, and Mountain West regions while helping shape the future of vibrant, livable communities.


Key Responsibilities

Studio & Practice Leadership

  • Serve as a visible, trusted leader within the industry-representing the studio's capabilities to clients, partners, and collaborators.

  • Mentor and guide a multidisciplinary team, fostering an environment of creativity, inclusion, and accountability.

  • Build and manage a portfolio of high-performing, award-winning projects.

  • Set clear performance goals for studio success and ensure alignment with the firm's values and strategic direction.

Business Development & Market Growth

  • Stay current on housing market trends, development pressures, and economic conditions influencing multifamily, mixed-use, and planning projects.

  • Partner with senior leadership to shape and execute a growth strategy that builds on the firm's established reputation.

  • Cultivate lasting client relationships and identify new business opportunities that align with the studio's expertise.

  • Elevate the firm's thought leadership through involvement in professional organizations, public speaking, and publication.

Project & Design Oversight

  • Lead planning and design efforts that are innovative, context-sensitive, and sustainability-driven.

  • Translate conceptual ideas into clear, buildable solutions for diverse audiences.

  • Guide interdisciplinary teams through all project phases with a focus on communication, collaboration, and technical rigor.

  • Oversee quality assurance, ensuring project deliverables meet the highest standards.

  • Manage contracts, consultant coordination, schedules, and budgets in partnership with project management and administrative teams.


Qualifications

  • Professional degree in Architecture

  • Active architectural licensure is required.

  • Minimum 15 years of professional experience, with at least 10 years focused on multifamily, mixed-use, and planning projects.

  • Proven success leading complex, large-scale developments with thoughtful and impactful design outcomes.

  • Strong understanding of the development landscape and key stakeholders in the multifamily and urban planning sectors.

  • A recognized presence in the field-through speaking, writing, or leadership within industry organizations.

  • Exceptional communication and team-building skills, with a focus on mentoring and collaboration.

  • Ability to attract, win, and deliver high-quality work aligned with studio and firm-wide goals.

  • Passion for sustainability, equitable communities, and forward-thinking design.
