BAS Consulting Engineer
We are a design consultancy specializing in the delivery of high-performance building systems. We're currently looking for a Senior Controls Engineer to lead the design and implementation of intelligent building automation solutions across a diverse range of commercial, institutional, and mixed-use projects.
This role is ideal for a technically skilled and detail-oriented engineer who thrives in a collaborative consultancy environment and enjoys working at the intersection of mechanical systems, controls, and building technology.
Key Responsibilities
Design & Documentation
Develop control system designs for HVAC, lighting, and integrated building systems.
Write detailed sequences of operation and control narratives.
Prepare BAS design drawings, schematics, and control diagrams.
Coordinate with MEP, electrical, and architectural teams throughout the design process.
Project Delivery
Lead controls scope from concept through construction and commissioning.
Review and approve submittals, shop drawings, and programming logic.
Provide technical oversight during system startup and commissioning.
Ensure designs align with project goals for energy efficiency, occupant comfort, and system integration.
Collaboration & Consulting
Serve as a key technical point of contact for clients, design partners, and contractors.
Support design decisions that align with sustainability certifications (e.g., LEED, WELL).
Mentor junior engineers and contribute to internal standards and best practices.
Required Skills & Experience
Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Electrical, or Controls Engineering (or related field).
Minimum 7 years of experience in building automation and DDC system design.
Strong understanding of BAS platforms such as Tridium, Johnson Controls, Siemens, or Honeywell.
Familiarity with open communication protocols (e.g., BACnet, Modbus, LonWorks).
Proficient in reading and writing sequences of operation for complex HVAC systems.
Experience working in a consultancy or design-focused engineering firm.
Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple projects.
Preferred Qualifications
Proficiency in Revit for controls and MEP coordination.
Experience with AutoCAD and other drafting/design tools.
Familiarity with sustainability frameworks (e.g., LEED, WELL, ASHRAE 90.1).
Knowledge of smart building technologies, energy analytics, or IoT integration.
PE license or ability to obtain one is a plus.
