Water Resources Engineer
Our client, a well-established engineering firm in Rockville, MD, is seeking a Water Resources Engineer with 4+ years of experience to join their team. This role will focus on water resources design and management for transportation-based projects, including stormwater management, drainage design, floodplain modeling, and environmental compliance, primarily for highways, bridges, and other transportation infrastructure.

Responsibilities:
Design and develop stormwater management systems for transportation projects, including roads, highways, and bridges.
Perform hydrologic and hydraulic analyses, floodplain modeling, and drainage design using industry-standard software such as HEC-RAS, SWMM, and others.
Collaborate with project managers, environmental specialists, and engineers to ensure water resources designs meet regulatory requirements and project specifications.
Conduct watershed assessments, drainage area mapping, and water quality analysis for transportation infrastructure projects.
Prepare technical reports, feasibility studies, and design documentation for regulatory approvals and permitting processes.
Contribute to the development and implementation of best management practices (BMPs) to address environmental concerns associated with transportation projects.
Provide construction support, including reviewing contractor submittals, conducting site inspections, and coordinating field activities.
Ensure all designs and project components comply with local, state, and federal regulations related to stormwater management and floodplain management.
Assist in managing project schedules, budgets, and client communications.
Qualifications:
Bachelor's Degree in Civil, Environmental, or Water Resources Engineering.
4+ years of professional experience in water resources engineering, particularly with transportation-based projects.
Proficiency in hydrologic and hydraulic modeling, stormwater management, and drainage design for transportation infrastructure.
Experience with design software such as HEC-RAS, SWMM, AutoCAD, MicroStation, or Civil 3D.
Strong understanding of local, state, and federal regulations related to stormwater management, floodplain management, and water quality in transportation projects.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to engage effectively with clients, contractors, and project teams.
Strong project management skills with the ability to handle multiple tasks and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
Professional Engineering (PE) license preferred but not required.
Preferred Qualifications:
Master's Degree in Civil or Environmental Engineering.
Familiarity with MS4 permit compliance, water quality management, and low-impact development (LID) strategies.
Experience with environmental permitting and compliance processes for transportation projects.
