Senior Transportation Engineer

We have a current opportunity for a Roadway/Aviation Engineer) on a permanent basis. The position will be based in Des Moines or Cedar Rapids, Iowa. For further information about this position see below:

In this role, you will lead and manage the design and construction management for airport projects, including runway, taxiway, and apron extensions and reconstructions; fuel systems; vertical infrastructure such as hangars and administrative buildings; and navigational aids. Additional responsibilities include managing budgets and schedules for assigned airport projects and assisting with marketing efforts for future clients. You will also serve as a client contact for airport boards and clients as assigned.

No prior experience in civil aviation is required, as we provide comprehensive training to get you up to speed. Experience in municipal projects, particularly those involving roadway and site inspections, is beneficial and will ease the transition.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and organize project assignments for engineers and technicians.
  • Serve as a client contact for airport boards/commissions and clients.
  • Review and prepare preliminary reports and feasibility studies.
  • Develop, coordinate, and review final designs and preparation of plans and specifications.
  • Provide technical advice on design, construction, modifications, and repairs to clients, contractors, and staff.
  • Manage planning, scheduling, and performance of multiple engineering projects and personnel, both design and construction.
  • Interpret engineering plans, specifications, and reports.
  • Perform effective technical writing and correspondence.
  • Engage in business development activities, including client needs assessment, research, and proposal preparation.
  • Coordinate construction administration and monitor documentation requirements with field staff.
  • Apply broad understanding of civil engineering and related fields to develop innovative solutions.
  • Assist in the training and development of professional and technical staff.
  • Develop relationships with regulatory agencies.
  • Travel periodically to work sites and other project-related locations.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering from an accredited college.
  • Licensed Professional Engineer in the State of Iowa.
  • Minimum of four years of progressive experience in civil engineering preferred.
  • Experience in plan development and construction contract administration.
  • Proven ability to lead the design and preparation of construction documents for projects.
  • Project delivery experience working directly with clients preferred.
