A well-respected multidisciplinary engineering firm is seeking an experienced Civil Engineering Department Manager to lead their Downtown Los Angeles office. This is a strategic leadership role for a self-motivated and client-focused civil engineer looking to shape a growing team, manage high-profile projects, and play a key role in the firm's continued success across the region.
About the Role
This position offers a dynamic blend of technical oversight, team leadership, and client engagement. You'll manage operations for the civil department, mentor junior staff, guide project execution, and support business development efforts in the greater Los Angeles area. Projects range from commercial and institutional developments to public utility work and infrastructure.
Key Responsibilities
Lead and grow a multidisciplinary team of engineers and designers.
Manage department operations including staffing, budgets, scheduling, and performance evaluations.
Oversee civil engineering projects from concept through construction.
Provide QA/QC reviews and technical guidance for grading, drainage, utilities, stormwater, and site design.
Develop and maintain client relationships and represent the firm in business development activities.
Lead proposal preparation, fee estimates, and scope negotiations.
Collaborate with leadership on department financials, forecasting, and resource planning.
Engage with local agencies and stakeholders on permitting and entitlements.
Foster a collaborative, high-performance culture rooted in mentorship and quality design.
Required Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering.
California PE license (required).
Minimum 10 years of professional experience in civil land development and/or infrastructure.
Strong project management and client-facing skills.
Deep knowledge of Los Angeles permitting and entitlement processes.
Proficiency in Civil 3D, MS Office, and general design software.
Preferred Experience
Background in both public and private sector work.
Experience serving as a prime consultant on multidisciplinary teams.
Familiarity with AutoCAD, Bluebeam, and/or Revit.
Experience with utility design and coordination.
Involvement in professional industry organizations or local A/E/C community.
Exposure to emerging sectors such as energy storage systems or sustainable infrastructure.

Salary range: $140,000 - $170,000
Paid overtime at 1x rate
End-of-year discretionary bonus
