Position Overview:
We are a leading heavy civil, highway, and paving general contractor based in Pensacola, FL, seeking an experienced and skilled Survey Party Chief to join our team. The Survey Party Chief will be responsible for leading field surveys and overseeing survey crews on various construction projects, ensuring accurate data collection for the construction of highways, roadways, and paving projects. The ideal candidate will possess a strong background in surveying for heavy civil projects, along with a proven ability to manage and mentor field crews while adhering to safety and quality standards.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead a survey crew in the field to collect and record accurate data for highway, road, and paving projects.
- Perform and direct topographic, boundary, control, and as-built surveys to support project design and construction activities.
- Operate and maintain surveying equipment, including GPS, total stations, and levels.
- Interpret construction plans and specifications, and perform layout work, including staking and elevation controls.
- Ensure compliance with all surveying practices, safety protocols, and company policies.
- Work closely with project managers, engineers, and contractors to communicate survey results and resolve any discrepancies.
- Provide leadership, training, and mentorship to junior survey crew members.
- Maintain proper records and documentation of survey data and reports for each project.
- Perform quality checks on survey data to ensure accuracy and completeness.
- Ensure that surveying activities are completed on schedule and within budget.
- Collaborate with other departments to ensure seamless project execution.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or GED (required). A degree or certification in surveying or a related field is preferred.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in surveying, with at least 2 years in a leadership role.
- Strong experience in heavy civil construction, specifically in highway, road, and paving projects.
- Proficient in the use of surveying equipment (GPS, total stations, levels, etc.).
- Solid understanding of construction plans, surveying techniques, and relevant software (AutoCAD, Civil 3D, Trimble, etc.).
- Ability to work independently and manage a survey crew effectively.
- Strong communication and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work in outdoor, physically demanding environments and on various terrain types.
- Knowledge of local, state, and federal surveying regulations and industry standards.
- Clean driving record and valid driver's license.
