Responsibilities:
- Restoration and Rehabilitation: Develop skills in structural restoration, with a comprehensive understanding of rehabilitation processes within the construction industry.
- Material Proficiency: Gain experience with both historical and modern construction materials and systems.
- Assessment and Reporting: Conduct visual and hands-on condition assessments, preparing reports that include observations, repair recommendations, prioritization, and cost estimates.
- Testing Techniques: Learn various destructive and non-destructive testing techniques for concrete, steel, and timber.
- Design and Specifications: Assist with design drawings and specifications, participate in bidding services, and conduct construction phase services, including site visits, field reports, project meetings, and reviews for contractor compliance.
- Project Management: Support project management tasks, including client and team coordination, scheduling, budgeting, and quality control.
- Structural Analysis and Rehabilitation Design: Perform structural analysis through hand calculations and computer modeling to verify the capacity of existing structures or design reinforcements.
- Building Codes: Learn to research and apply building codes relevant to rehabilitation projects.
- Client Communication: Develop communication skills to work effectively with a range of stakeholders, such as condo associations and commercial property owners.
- Professional Development: Actively participate in industry events and professional organizations to build knowledge and connections.
- Mentorship and Training: Begin mentoring junior staff as you develop expertise in restoration engineering.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Civil or Structural Engineering, or equivalent field experience.
- 3-7 years of structural engineering experience, ideally with exposure to restoration, rehabilitation, and the construction industry.
- Foundational knowledge of multiple structural framing systems.
- Proficiency in interpreting both historical and modern structural drawings.
- Experience with visual and hands-on assessment techniques and report writing.
- Basic understanding of concrete, steel, and timber materials and testing methods.
- Familiarity with design software and structural analysis programs.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Motivated to participate in professional organizations and pursue professional growth.
