Job Description:
A leading BESS IPP is in search of motivated and dynamic candidates to fill the role of Project Manager, tasked with supporting the development and execution of multiple sequential utility-scale battery energy storage projects, from late-stage development through commissioning. Reporting to the Senior Director of Projects, the Project Manager will collaborate closely with the Project Developer during development phases and ensure a seamless transition to the project team in late-stage development. During project execution, responsibilities will include overseeing project design, permitting, contractor and vendor selection, contracting, as well as all construction and commissioning activities, culminating in handover to Asset Management. Ultimately, the Project Manager will be accountable for project schedule and budget adherence, collaborating with the project team, including the Project Engineer and Construction Manager.
Key Responsibilities of BESS Senior Project Manager/Project Manager:
- Oversee project schedule and budget management.
- Coordinate with engineering consultants throughout project development, permitting, and construction stages, supported by the engineering team.
- Review and approve project engineering proposals and design documents during pre-construction and construction phases to align with project objectives.
- Maintain engineering issues log, RFI log, and submittal log during project execution, while assigning personnel to tasks with clear deadlines.
- Prepare and manage overall project schedule from commissioning to handover to asset management, ensuring alignment with major project milestones and reporting on schedule variances weekly.
- Develop bid documents for contractor and subcontractor selection, including scopes of work and work schedules.
- Assist in procurement of owner-supplied equipment and manage vendors through contracting, delivery, and installation of major equipment.
- Facilitate project meetings, maintain meeting minutes, and assign personnel to tasks with clear deadlines.
- Prepare weekly and monthly project status reports for internal management review and investor/board updates during project execution.
- Ensure project design compliance with federal, state, and local regulations, securing all necessary permits for construction and operation.
- Collaborate with project finance to establish initial project budget and oversee budget management throughout project execution, providing regular updates on variances.
- Maintain risk register to identify and communicate key risks throughout project execution.
- Track performance and analyze completion of key goals during project execution, maintaining production logs for future reference in project lessons learned, and schedule and budget forecasting.
Quality Assurance Responsibilities of BESS Senior Project Manager/Project Manager:
- Verify project execution during construction aligns with all IFC design drawings.
- Assist third-party/IE partners in confirming project performance through site visits and tests oversight.
- Manage document control, including all project contracts, consulting agreements, IFC, and Red-lined design documents.
- Support final inspections and punch list process with contractors, vendors, independent engineers, and management.
Safety Responsibilities of BESS Senior Project Manager/Project Manager:
- Collaborate with HSE team to develop and execute site-specific safety programs and activities.
- Monitor and review trade partner work plans and activities for safety concerns.
- Participate in and contribute to project planning and hazard analysis.
- Enforce procedures, rules, and regulations to maintain a safe and clean working environment.
- Stay updated on construction safety standards, OSHA, ANSI, NFPA, and other applicable regulations, laws, and procedures.
- Serve as a resource for safety issues or concerns for all project team members.
Skills and Qualifications for BESS Senior Project Manager/Project Manager:
- 5-10 years of project management experience in relevant power delivery, substation, transmission line, interconnect, renewable energy or energy storage preferred.
- Familiarity with relevant standards and regulations.
- Proficiency in project management tools and software.
- PMP Certification is a plus
- Familiarity with applicable standards including IBC, NFPA 855, CEC, CFC, IEEE, NEMA, NEC, OSHA, and UL.
- Strong communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills.
