Full Job Description:
Position Responsibilities:
The Automation & Control Engineer's role encompasses various responsibilities, including overseeing the PLC/SCADA systems that support plant operations. They contribute to capital projects, support new facility designs, and lead process improvement initiatives. This position involves coordinating with multiple stakeholders such as engineering, production, maintenance, utilities, IT, environmental, safety, management, and contractors. Additionally, the Sr Automation & Control Engineer identifies and scopes new projects, participates in project teams, and manages project budget, timing, and quality.
Key Responsibilities:
- Document Review: Analyze engineering design documents to ensure new systems comply with site standards.
- Collaboration: Coordinate with external engineers and various disciplines to resolve design issues effectively.
- System Integration: Work within the PLC/SCADA environment to incorporate vendor skids into existing operations.
- SCADA Graphics Development: Create and update SCADA graphics according to site standards.
- Programming: Utilize ladder logic, function block, and structured text programming in RSLogix to adhere to site standards.
- Infrastructure Integration: Integrate systems into an Ethernet-based network.
- Installation Support: Provide support for the installation, troubleshooting, and commissioning of control logic, actuated valves, instruments, process equipment, remote I/O panels, SCADA servers, and workstations.
- Construction Oversight: Generate and oversee drawings for new construction projects.
- Standards Compliance: Adhere to design, project managment and document control standards.
- Project Development: Develop project scopes and maintain clear communications, schedule, and budget tracking with supervisors and management.
- Control Scheme Design: Design effective control schemes and strategies, collaborating with process engineers to understand plant operation requirements.
- Documentation Maintenance: Maintain I/O lists, control specifications, and instrumentation data sheets.
- Document Creation: Create and maintain control documents, P&ID's, process control procedures, design basis procedures, data sheets, I/O lists, etc.
- Training and Supervision: Provide technical training and supervision to operators and process staff.
- Efficiency Improvement: Collaborate with the commissioning and optimization team to improve control system efficiency.
- Project Coordination: Work with purchasing, vendors, maintenance, contractors, operators, and other team members to complete project activities.
- Additional Tasks: Perform any other tasks as needed or as directed by management.
Basic Qualifications:
- Bachelors of Science in Engineering or a related Field.
- 5+ years of Experience as a process Controls engineer.
- Must be Authorized to work in the United States.
- On-site in California (Fully remote position).
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience in programming and troubleshooting PLC systems.
- Knowledge of Allen Bradley ControlLogix / CompactLogix, RSLogix, RSLinx, RSNetworx for ControlNet, RS Factory Talk, Allen Bradley PanelView Plus, General Electric iFIX, OSI Software - PI (Data Link, ProcessBook, Server, Notifications, etc.), Microsoft SQL Server.
- Experience with a wide range of instrumentation (temperature, pressure, control valves, flowmeters, pH, VFD's, etc.).
- Experience with (Reactors, filters, pumps, PLC Coontrol systems
