Role Overview
The Principal Structural Engineer leads engineering design projects and fosters client relationships. This role collaborates with a team of engineering professionals to deliver design solutions for industrial clients on both national and international scales. The projects involve complex structures and foundations for industrial, manufacturing, and utility sectors. The ideal candidate is a self-motivated problem solver who can independently address issues and clearly communicate technical challenges and solutions to clients and team members.
Role & Responsibilities:
- Serve as a Subject Matter Expert (SME) for the entire Structural Engineering Team, providing high-level technical services and support to clients for their projects and technical requirements.
Plan, direct, supervise, and support client projects from proposal to completion.
Make decisions at a technical and quality level to ensure customer satisfaction and meet corporate objectives.
Identify, formulate, and initiate solutions to complex problems using structural analytical tools, while coordinating with the project team.
Understand, analyze, and construct system architectures and component relationships.
Lead, facilitate, and coordinate work activities, including interactions with employees, customers, suppliers, and alliances at the project, office, or client level.
Coordinate activities affecting the quality of administration, proposals, engineering & design, document control, inspection & testing, and commissioning according to the Quality Assurance Program.
Apply the most recent codes and standards to design work.
Identify and resolve problems involving conflicting or incomplete information.
Develop schedules, budgets, and resource allocation plans.
Plan and schedule individual and team activities using planning and scheduling tools.
Recognize the need for and initiate corrective action to address shortcomings in design or engineering processes that affect quality or safety requirements.
Conduct root cause assessments and recommend practical solutions to underlying problems.
Perform, supervise, and review complex calculations and design outputs.
Conduct or oversee on-site inspections of systems and facilities for customers.
Provide training and mentoring for subordinate technical staff, actively participating in personnel development by seeking client feedback on products and services rendered.
Participate in the Employee Assessment and development process.
Establish credibility and competence with clients on technical issues, and possess strong personal and presentation skills.
Make technical assessments and design decisions involving uncertainty and risk.
Perform other responsibilities as assigned or deemed appropriate by management.
Prepare technical reports for supervisors, management, and clients.
Education Requirements:
Bachelor's degree in civil or structural engineering.
Over 10 years of experience in structural design and project management.
Licensed Professional Engineer (PE), with an NCEES Record preferred.
Proven experience in designing complex structures, including industrial buildings, heavy equipment platforms, pipe bridges, and trussed systems.
Skilled in designing both shallow and deep foundations based on geotechnical recommendations.
Experienced in working with clients and developing proposals to secure new projects.
