We are looking for a driven mid-to-senior level licensed Professional Engineer to join our team of multi-disciplinary experts. The ideal candidate should have expertise in the behavior of structural systems and their components, with a focus on forensic engineering for residential, commercial, industrial, and marine structures. While experience in failure analysis, technical reporting, and construction litigation is preferred, a strong background in structural design is also acceptable. Familiarity with building systems, including steel, concrete, masonry, wood, roofing, and envelopes, is essential.
Responsibilities:
- Conduct fieldwork to document as-built conditions and structural damage caused by natural events (e.g., wind, water, fire, earthquakes) or human-related factors (e.g., design and construction errors). Natural events may include major disasters like hurricanes, floods, and fires.
- Apply building codes, structural behavior knowledge, and construction practices to develop repair recommendations and perform cause-and-origin analyses.
- Review and evaluate design drawings and related documentation.
- Interact with clients, code officials, and contractors, delivering detailed technical reports.
- Manage multiple projects, ensuring timely completion within budget.
- Build and maintain client relationships.
- Be available to travel on short notice as required.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Civil or Architectural Engineering from an ABET-accredited institution.
- Illinois Professional Engineer license obtained through NCEES examination; additional state licenses are a plus.
- 2-5 years of experience in structural engineering, design, or related areas that demonstrate a strong understanding of structural behavior.
- Familiarity with national building and construction codes (e.g., ICC, ASCE, AISC, ACI, NDS).
- Knowledge of various construction methods is advantageous.
- Fieldwork experience.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Experience with litigation support, including providing expert testimony, is a plus.
