Director of Environmental Consulting Services
A leading environmental consulting firm is seeking a full-time, highly motivated, and ambitious Director of Environmental Consulting Services to join their Engineering & Consulting team.
Essential Functions
The primary function of the Environmental Consulting Director is to establish department goals, manage staff and budgets, develop policies and procedures, coordinate with others, and report to leadership. This position is responsible for preparing, overseeing, and finalizing site investigations and corrective actions in accordance with regulatory guidelines. Collaboration within the Phase I and Phase II teams and leadership, as well as direct communication with clients, sub-contractors, and regulatory agencies, is essential. Specific job tasks include:
- Provide department leadership, including establishing goals, managing staff, and managing department budgets.
- Mentor, coach, and develop team members.
- Assist in the overall strategic vision and growth of the Engineering & Consulting services department.
- Bid and prepare project proposals.
- Coordinate with clients to recommend and deliver desired outcomes.
- Prepare detailed plans and reports for clients and/or regulatory agencies.
- Senior review of PM proposals, work plans, and reports.
- Coordinate with regulatory agencies to drive mutually agreeable project closure.
- Review technical documents to prepare remediation cost estimates for client reliance.
- Design and implement remedial solutions.
- Manage project schedules, job costs, invoicing, and collections.
- Senior review of all department deliverables.
- Manage subcontractors as needed.
- Track changes in existing regulatory rules.
- Provide internal technical review of proposals, work plans, and reports.
- Attend industry events and develop new clients.
- Participate in professional organizations and speaking engagements.
- Procure work for the Engineering & Consulting services team.
- Desired billable rate of 75% total billed hours.
Required Experience
The following education, skills, and experience are required for this role:
- Geology (RG/PG) and/or Engineering (PE) License.
- Minimum 10 years of technical field experience, project management and regulatory consulting required.
- Strong understanding of State and USEPA Regulatory Programs, specifically extensive experience managing Illinois Tiered Approach to Corrective Action Objectives (TACO) and Missouri Risk Based Corrective Action (MRBCA) Projects under both voluntary and tanks regulatory programs required.
- Experience with regulatory agency interface required.
- Current Hazwoper (40-hour plus annual updates).
Compensation and Benefits
- $100,000 to $150,000 per year depending on level of experience.
