We are seeking a Controls Engineer with a strong background in industrial automation to join our team. The ideal candidate will work closely with Electrical Designers/Drafters and Management to ensure the functionality of both custom and standard automation equipment. This role requires hands-on involvement in electrical design, troubleshooting, programming, and commissioning of equipment. With a focus on PLC/HMI programming (Rockwell) and AutoCAD for electrical schematics, this position offers the opportunity to apply problem-solving skills in a fast-paced industrial automation environment. The role also requires the flexibility to travel 30-50% for site commissioning and troubleshooting.
Key Responsibilities:
- Electrical Design & Programming: Assist in the creation of electrical schematics and PLC/HMI programming for automation systems, with a particular focus on Rockwell platforms (RSLogix 5000, Studio 5000, FactoryTalk View).
- Hands-On Troubleshooting: Troubleshoot and resolve issues in PLC, HMI, and control systems, ensuring the continuous and smooth operation of industrial automation equipment.
- Commissioning & Startup: Travel 30-50% to oversee the installation, testing, and startup of systems, ensuring they meet performance specifications and function optimally.
- Drafting & Schematics: Use AutoCAD to create accurate and detailed electrical schematics, supporting the integration of electrical and control systems.
- Collaborative Leadership: Work alongside the drafting team, production staff, and project managers to provide technical direction and ensure alignment with project goals.
- Problem-Solving & Continuous Improvement: Address operational challenges with creative, practical solutions. Help streamline design processes to improve efficiency and system performance.
- Standardization & Design Improvements: Contribute to the development of standardized designs for electrical systems, ensuring consistency and reducing time spent on repetitive tasks.
- System Optimization: Stay current with industrial automation trends, and propose new approaches to enhance system design, performance, and energy efficiency.
Key Objectives:
- PLC/HMI Programming: Take full responsibility for projects from initial programming to commissioning, ensuring that all systems are optimized for operational performance.
- Hands-On Troubleshooting: Build expertise in diagnosing and solving technical issues in complex automation systems, ensuring minimal downtime and maximum system uptime.
- Improve Design Efficiency: Assist in the development of standard designs and drawings to streamline the design process and improve overall efficiency.
- Enhance System Performance: Continuously look for opportunities to improve the performance, security, and functionality of automation systems.
Required Skills & Experience:
- 5+ years of experience in industrial automation, with a strong background in PLC programming (particularly Rockwell systems) and HMI development.
- Experience with AutoCAD for creating and modifying electrical schematics.
- Hands-on troubleshooting experience in PLC, HMI, and industrial control systems.
- Strong working knowledge of Rockwell Automation platforms, including RSLogix 5000, Studio 5000, and FactoryTalk View.
