My clients are seeking an experienced Controls Engineer with expertise in Ignition SCADA and PLC programming to join our team in supporting the design, implementation, and maintenance of control systems for cutting-edge data centers. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in industrial automation, experience with critical infrastructure environments, and a passion for ensuring optimal operational performance in data centers.
This role focuses on developing and maintaining robust, scalable, and efficient control systems to monitor and optimize data center operations, including HVAC, power distribution, and energy management.
Key Responsibilities:
Design and Development:
- Design, program, and deploy SCADA systems using Ignition to monitor and control data center infrastructure.
- Develop and implement PLC logic for various automation systems, ensuring seamless operation and reliability.
- Integrate control systems with power management, HVAC, and other critical systems in the data center.
System Integration and Commissioning:
- Configure communication protocols (e.g., Modbus, BACnet, OPC, Ethernet/IP) for data exchange between SCADA, PLCs, and third-party devices.
- Perform system commissioning, testing, and validation to ensure functionality aligns with project specifications.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate automation systems into the broader data center infrastructure.
Maintenance and Support:
- Provide ongoing remote or on-site support for deployed control systems, including troubleshooting and updates.
- Monitor system performance to ensure uptime and efficiency in mission-critical environments.
- Implement predictive and preventive maintenance strategies for control systems.
Data Analytics and Reporting:
- Develop and customize dashboards and reports within Ignition to provide actionable insights into data center operations.
- Support data acquisition and storage for long-term analysis and optimization efforts.
Compliance and Best Practices:
- Adhere to industry standards and best practices for data center automation and controls, including cybersecurity measures.
- Ensure all designs and implementations comply with safety and operational standards.
Qualifications:
Required Skills and Experience:
- Proven experience with Ignition SCADA development and customization
- Strong proficiency in PLC programming (e.g., Allen-Bradley, Siemens, Schneider, or similar platforms).
- Solid understanding of data center infrastructure, including power distribution, cooling, and energy management.
- Experience with industrial communication protocols (e.g., Modbus, OPC UA, BACnet).
- Familiarity with SQL databases and integrating SCADA with database systems.
Preferred Skills:
- Experience with high-availability or mission-critical environments like data centers or industrial facilities.
- Knowledge of power monitoring systems (e.g., PowerLogic, Eaton Foreseer).
- Familiarity with virtualized environments, Docker, or cloud-based Ignition deployments.
- Understanding of cybersecurity practices for industrial control systems.
Education and Certification:
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Automation Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
- Certifications such as Ignition Gold, Rockwell Automation Certifications, or equivalent are a plus.
