We are looking for a skilled and driven Controls System Designer to join our team in the industrial automation sector at our Charlotte NC office. The ideal candidate will possess expertise in AutoCAD or EPLAN, along with hands-on experience in PLC programming. In this position, you'll design comprehensive control systems for industrial applications, develop detailed system and panel layouts, and ensure system functionality through effective programming and design documentation. The role offers an exciting opportunity to work on cutting-edge automation projects in manufacturing, process control, and other industrial settings.
Key Responsibilities:
- Design control systems and panels using AutoCAD or EPLAN, focusing on reliability, efficiency, and compliance with industrial automation standards.
- Select and specify components (such as sensors, drives, controllers, and other automation hardware) based on project requirements, industry standards, and system specifications.
- Create material submittals utilizing manufacturer data, technical specifications, and best practices to ensure components meet project needs.
- Develop detailed sequences of operation (SOO) for industrial automation systems to outline the control processes, ensuring accuracy and clarity for successful system integration.
- Program and troubleshoot PLC systems to ensure proper operation of industrial machinery, processes, and automated systems. This includes selecting appropriate programming languages and methods for each application (e.g., Ladder Logic, Function Block Diagram).
- Collaborate with engineers, project managers, and other team members to ensure that control systems meet project goals, timelines, and quality standards.
- Stay current with new technologies and innovations in industrial automation, such as IoT integration, cybersecurity for industrial control systems, and advancements in PLC and SCADA systems.
- Foster a collaborative team environment with a focus on continuous improvement and problem-solving to address complex automation challenges.
Qualifications:
- A degree in electrical engineering, automation engineering, or a related field is preferred but not required; candidates with equivalent experience in industrial automation will be strongly considered.
- PLC programming experience (e.g., Allen-Bradley, Siemens, or other platforms) is required.
- Solid understanding of industrial automation technologies, including control systems, SCADA, PLCs, HMI design, and industrial communications protocols (e.g., Modbus, Profibus, Ethernet/IP).
- Experience with AutoCAD or EPLAN for designing electrical control systems.
- Ability to troubleshoot and optimize complex industrial control systems and automated processes.
Required Skills:
- Intermediate to advanced proficiency in AutoCAD or EPLAN for electrical and control system design.
- Proficiency in PLC programming for industrial automation systems, with hands-on experience in troubleshooting and optimizing PLC-controlled processes.
- A strong understanding of electrical control systems, including power distribution, motor control, and safety systems, with a focus on industrial applications.
