Job Description
We are seeking an experienced Business Unit Leader specializing in Water/Wastewater Engineering to lead and grow our Iowa-based team. This role requires a Professional Engineer (PE) license, over 10 years of experience, and a proven track record in project management, client development, and team leadership. The ideal candidate will have deep technical expertise in water/wastewater infrastructure projects and strong business acumen to drive operational and financial success.
Key Responsibilities
Leadership and Strategy:
- Lead the water/wastewater business unit, including managing staff, project execution, and financial performance.
- Develop and implement strategies to expand market presence and achieve business growth goals.
Client and Business Development:
- Build and maintain strong relationships with clients, identifying opportunities for new projects and partnerships.
- Collaborate on proposals, presentations, and contract negotiations to secure new work.
Project Oversight:
- Oversee the planning, design, and execution of water/wastewater projects, ensuring high-quality deliverables that meet client expectations.
- Provide technical guidance and approvals for complex designs, reports, and regulatory submittals.
Team Management:
- Mentor and develop a multidisciplinary team of engineers and technical staff.
- Promote a collaborative work environment, ensuring resources are aligned to meet project demands.
Financial Accountability:
- Manage budgets, schedules, and financial performance of the business unit.
- Monitor project profitability and implement improvements as needed.
Technical Expertise:
- Guide the application of advanced modeling, analysis, and design techniques for water distribution, wastewater collection, treatment systems, and stormwater infrastructure.
- Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations.
Qualifications
Education:
- Bachelor's degree in Civil or Environmental engineering
Licensure:
- Must hold a valid Professional Engineer (PE) license in Iowa (or have the ability to obtain it within 6 months).
Experience:
- At least 10 years of experience in water/wastewater engineering and project management, with a focus on infrastructure design and implementation.
- Prior experience managing a team or business unit is strongly preferred.
Technical Skills:
- Proficiency in:
- Required: AutoCAD, Civil 3D, WaterCAD, and SewerCAD.
- Preferred: ArcGIS, InfoWater, HEC-RAS, SWMM, and project management tools (e.g., Microsoft Project).
- In-depth knowledge of regulatory requirements and industry standards.
- Proficiency in:
Business Acumen:
- Strong financial management skills, including experience with budgeting and forecasting.
- Ability to identify market opportunities and drive business growth.
Leadership and Communication:
- Proven ability to lead and inspire a team while maintaining a positive and collaborative work environment.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with experience presenting to clients and stakeholders.
