Water Resources Director of Engineering

Are you a strategic leader with extensive experience in water resources engineering? We are seeking a highly experienced Director of Engineering to oversee and lead our Water Resources team. In this senior role, you will manage large-scale water resources projects, lead a talented team of engineers and technicians, and ensure the successful delivery of innovative water resources solutions. Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and provide strategic direction for the engineering team working on water resources projects, ensuring projects are delivered on time, within budget, and to the highest standards of quality.

  • Oversee complex hydrologic and hydraulic analyses, ensuring that designs for stream restoration, dam improvements, storm drain systems, and stormwater management retrofits meet both client and regulatory requirements.

  • Manage the preparation and approval of construction documents, guiding the team through the feasibility, conceptual design, permitting, and construction phases.

  • Build and maintain strong client relationships, serving as the primary point of contact for all project communications, and ensuring client needs are met with professionalism and efficiency.

  • Provide oversight and mentorship to engineering/CAD technicians, surveyors, and sub-consultants, promoting a culture of collaboration, innovation, and technical excellence.

  • Manage the preparation of reports, proposals, and other project documentation, ensuring alignment with strategic goals and client expectations.

  • Oversee project budgets, timelines, and resources, ensuring the efficient and effective delivery of all engineering projects.

  • Ensure the team remains current with industry trends, emerging technologies, and regulatory changes, fostering a culture of continuous learning and improvement.

Required Skills and Experience:

  • Professional Engineer (PE) license in the state of Maryland or the ability to obtain one within three (3) months of hire.

  • A minimum of 20 years of experience in water resources engineering, with a proven track record of leading teams and managing large-scale, complex projects from start to finish.

  • Extensive experience in water resources project management, including design, permitting, and construction management processes.

  • Strong leadership skills with the ability to mentor and manage multi-disciplinary teams of engineers, technicians, and external consultants.

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with experience managing client relationships and working closely with stakeholders.

  • In-depth knowledge of the permitting processes within Montgomery, Prince George's, and Howard Counties, as well as experience working with the Maryland State Highway Administration and Maryland Department of the Environment.

Desired Skills and Experience:

  • Proficiency with AutoCAD Civil 3D and Microsoft Project.

  • Familiarity with ArcGIS and other water resources engineering tools.

  • Resident of Prince George's County or familiarity with the local area is a plus.
