Job Summary:
Our client is seeking a highly skilled and experienced PPA Manager to oversee and manage Power Purchase Agreements (PPAs) for their solar power projects. This role involves leading contract negotiations with electricity off-takers, including corporations, municipalities, and utilities, to maximize long-term business growth and revenue. Additionally, the PPA Manager will monitor regulatory compliance, analyze market trends, and oversee contract execution to ensure stable power supply and revenue generation.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Planning, Negotiation, and Execution of PPA Contracts:

    • Evaluate and propose the most suitable PPA models, including corporate PPAs, feed-in tariff (FIT) PPAs for utilities, and municipal PPAs.
    • Lead discussions, negotiations, and contract execution with off-takers (electricity buyers).
    • Formulate contract terms, including pricing, contract duration, supply volume, risk allocation, and collateral requirements.
    • Conduct legal reviews of contracts to minimize risks, in collaboration with internal legal teams and external counsel.
  2. Market Analysis and Strategy Development:

    • Analyze PPA market trends, electricity market dynamics (such as Japan Electric Power Exchange - JEPX), and regulatory changes.
    • Assess corporate decarbonization strategies and demand based on initiatives like RE100 and Science-Based Targets (SBT).
    • Build and maintain relationships with power retailers and large electricity consumers.
    • Explore new business models and financing schemes for PPAs, such as virtual PPAs and physical PPAs.
  3. Contract Implementation and Risk Management:

    • Monitor PPA contract performance and implement countermeasures in case of contract breaches or emerging risks.
    • Manage risks associated with fluctuations in power generation (output control, supply-demand adjustments, improving forecast accuracy).
    • Develop strategies for leveraging carbon credits and certificates (J-Credits, Green Energy Certificates, Non-Fossil Certificates).
    • Collaborate with internal teams, including power plant operations, finance, and legal departments, to ensure stable PPA execution.
  4. Stakeholder Engagement:

    • Report to company executives, project development teams, and finance departments.
    • Liaise with government agencies and regulatory bodies (such as the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry and the Organization for Cross-regional Coordination of Transmission Operators).
    • Develop partnerships with key market players, including electricity retailers, investors, and financial institutions.
