Commissioning Project Manager

A consulting engineering firm specializing in Mechanical, Electrical, Plumbing, Security, and Information Technology Design is looking for a Commissioning Project Manager. Summary

The Commissioning Project Manager oversees all aspects of commissioning projects, utilizing planning, monitoring, and controlling processes. The Project Manager is responsible for the coordination and completion of the project and will perform a variety of tasks, including setting deadlines, assigning responsibilities, and monitoring the progress of the project. The Project Manager may handle multiple projects simultaneously.

Core Responsibilities

Planning and Problem-Solving Tasks

  • The Project Manager is responsible for planning the project to achieve goals within constraints such as time, cost, and quality standards.
  • The Project Manager is responsible for maintaining the project budget.
  • Continuous monitoring of the project's progress in terms of plan status and budget, with weekly or other reporting to the Director of Commissioning.
  • Identifying and addressing deviations from the plan or schedule early, while keeping all participants and stakeholders informed.
  • Identifying, logging, analyzing, and managing potential issues and risks, and taking corrective action as necessary. Addressing day-to-day issues and assessing the impact of serious issues on scope, schedule, quality, and cost.
  • Recognizing when extra time or resources will be required and where efficiencies can be implemented.

Communication Tasks

  • The Project Manager should be able to articulate and negotiate consensus on the final vision and core goals of the project.
  • Defining acceptance criteria for project deliverables or collaborating with specialists to establish them and working towards stakeholder acceptance.

Team Management Tasks

  • Identifying the need for resources and managing team responsibilities.
  • Managing the project team and working with team leaders to estimate efforts, plan activities, and coordinate tasks.
  • If parts of the work are performed by subcontractors, the Project Manager will manage and coordinate their efforts.
  • Using tools like Gantt charts, spreadsheets, or other relevant tools to manage tasks and personnel.
  • Providing direction and vision to the team, motivating them to perform, listening to feedback, recognizing strengths, and offering challenges.
  • Bringing the project to a close, which may involve creating final reports, evaluations, and capturing lessons learned.

Technical and Quality Tasks

  • The Project Manager should strive to understand the technology being used to assess requests from specialists and technical staff and evaluate feasibility.
  • Ensuring that all project team members understand and follow relevant methodologies, processes, and standards.
  • Responsible for maintaining the project's commitment to quality and may consult with specialists to define or assess quality standards.

Organizing Tasks

  • Generating documents, including requirement specifications, contracts, schedules, project reports, communication records, meeting agendas, minutes, and status reports.
  • Engaging in business development opportunities and representing the firm to clients and industry experts.

Qualifications

  • 5+ years of experience in a commissioning role within the commissioning services industry.
  • Engineering degree or equivalent professional experience.
  • Project management or relevant certification.
  • Attendance at relevant commissioning conferences for continuing education.
