Role Overview:
The Deputy Project Leader (Telecommunications) is a training-focused role designed for individuals looking to gain experience in supervising and managing telecommunications projects. This role will involve learning to direct teams, prepare project plans and budgets, analyze data, and support the deployment of telecommunications infrastructure, including cabling, networking, and security systems. A solid foundation in technology systems integration and the ability to lead design and construction teams is key to success in this role.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assist with leading a team responsible for the deployment of telecommunications and electronic safety systems, including pathways, cabling, networking, wireless systems, CCTV, access control, and A/V systems.
- Support the design and implementation of Information Transport Systems (ITS) and other telecommunications infrastructure.
- Oversee day-to-day project operations or specific sections of larger projects.
- Identify and manage change orders, ensuring effective resolutions.
- Monitor project cash flow and track expenses against budgets.
- Maintain accurate as-built records as work progresses.
- Document project conditions and issues for resolution.
- Plan and execute project completion, including punch list management.
- Set and prioritize goals to ensure project tasks are completed efficiently.
- Interpret blueprints and specifications and ensure design accuracy.
- Prepare and manage pricing estimates and change orders for partially designed projects.
- Coordinate with stakeholders, including contractors, clients, and design professionals, to resolve project issues.
- Represent the company in external communications with clients, contractors, and government agencies.
Qualifications:
- Education: 5+ years of experience working for a telecommunications integrator or electrical contractor, with a Bachelor's Degree in Engineering (preferably Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field).
- Experience:
- Experience on telecommunication and security projects ranging from $500,000 to $10M.
- Familiarity with contract drawings, subcontracts, specifications, RFIs, submittals, and change orders.
- Experience in Information Transport Systems (ITS) installation.
- Proficiency with MS Office Suite, project management software, CPM scheduling, and AutoCAD.
- Knowledge of design techniques and concepts related to electrical and security projects.
- Familiarity with standard deliverables and work processes for construction and integration projects.
- Strong interpersonal, communication, and problem-solving skills.
- Proven ability to plan, organize, and execute tasks effectively.
- Travel Requirements: Up to 25% travel, valid driver's license, and reliable transportation are required.
Preferred Skills:
- Accubid Estimating or similar software for electrical installations.
- Primavera P6 or equivalent CPM scheduling experience.
- Willingness to travel as needed to project locations.
Abilities:
- Ability to work with computer screens for extended periods.
- Ability to sit for long periods and extend hands or arms in any direction.
- Finger dexterity for using a keyboard and manipulating objects.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to apply general rules to solve specific problems and understand detailed technical information.
