Senior Engineering Project Manager
A well-established engineering consultancy is seeking a Senior Engineering Project Manager. While there is remote flexibility, the selected individual must be based in California for occasional site visits, client meetings, etc. In this role, you will take a prominent role in the planning, design, permitting, and construction of biogas and landfill gas systems, solid waste handling and disposal facilities as well as other environmental projects. You may oversee and direct the activities of engineers, scientists, technicians and clerical staff toward successful completion of projects. This position will combine office assignments with occasional site visits and client involvement.
Responsibilities:
- Conduct technical assessments for biogas-to-renewable energy and solid waste projects across California and the Western U.S.
- Participate in all project phases, from investigation to construction/remediation, including developing drawings, plans, specifications, reports, bid documents, and certifications.
- Design systems for biogas collection, leachate management, stormwater/surface water control, and liner installations.
- Develop construction plans and specifications.
- Estimate construction costs.
- Effectively manage project timelines, budgets, and schedules.
- Prepare project proposals and engage with clients and regulatory authorities.
- Ensure adherence to safe work practices.
- Evaluate system performance based on operational goals and regulatory requirements.
- Prepare permit applications for new site developments, modifications, and closures.
- Supervise construction activities to ensure compliance with engineering and regulatory standards.
- Co-author or publish technical papers in relevant fields.
- Maintain and expand client relationships.
- Oversee proposal development, including scope definition and budget planning, to support workload management.
- Guide and mentor staff to foster team development.
- Collaborate with senior team members to drive group planning, growth, and development.
- Review and interpret scientific and technical reports, financial documents, and legal materials.
- Draft environmental reports, business correspondence, and procedural manuals.
- Address client, regulatory, and business community inquiries or concerns.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's or higher degree in Civil, Mechanical, Geological or Environmental Engineering or related field
- At least 8 years of experience in engineering projects
- Experience with biogas and landfill gas systems and solid waste industry
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Ability to supervise technical and support staff and to provide leadership and mentoring to professional personnel
- Proven technical skills in design and/or construction
- Outstanding knowledge of the Microsoft Office software suite, and PDF editors (Bluebeam or Adobe)
- Excellent interpersonal skills and unwavering personal integrity
- Excellent organizational and time management skills
- Self-disciplined/motivated individual who also works well in a team environment
- Valid driver's license
Nice to Have:
- 40 Hour OSHA HAZWOPER certification
- Supervisory experience
- Professional Engineer certification in California or other Western states
- AutoCAD/Civil 3D or GIS skills
