Lead Electrical Engineer (STATCOM/FACTS/HVDC)
In this role, you will:
- Serve as a technical lead for substation design projects involving FACTS technology at various voltage levels (distribution, sub transmission, and transmission).
- Utilize safety and regulatory standards (IEEE, IEC, NEC, NESC, NERC, ISO/RTO) to define project requirements, review deliverables, and collaborate with owner and OEM resources.
- Conduct research to locate necessary white papers, brochures, publications, or standards for non-standard substation design aspects.
- Communicate technical information to the project team, including stakeholders with varying levels of technical expertise.
- Lead discussions with the owner engineering team to resolve technical or project management topics.
This is a HYBRID opportunity. Candidates must be located or willing to relocate to any U.S. Regional Office.
Responsibilities
- Stay current and apply independent knowledge about departmental design guides, standards, systems, applicable engineering codes, and policies and procedures.
- Apply knowledge and comply with quality programs.
- Ensure compliance with quality programs.
- Support continuous improvement and change management efforts.
- Prepare complex engineering deliverables.
- Conduct research and develop recommendations for equipment and materials selection.
- Manage budget, schedule, and quality requirements.
- Evaluate, select, and adapt engineering techniques, procedures, and criteria.
- Review lower-level engineering work.
- Oversee data collection, assimilation, and management for engineering work.
- Lead smaller production teams and serve as the responsible charge for projects.
- Coordinate with internal and external team members on moderately complex projects.
Preferred Qualifications
- PE License
- Substation Design - Physical & P&C
- Quality Assurance and Quality Control of substation design projects
- 5+ years of experience in electrical engineering with a focus on STATCOM/FACTS technology
- Strong knowledge of electrical systems, power electronics, and control systems
- General understanding of civil, site, system studies, settings, and telecommunication design
- Experience with simulation and modeling software (PSCAD, PSSE, PSLF, etc.)
- Familiarity with regulatory standards (IEC, IEEE, ISO/RTO, NEC, NERC, NESC)
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple projects simultaneously
