Lead Electrical Engineer (STATCOM/FACTS/HVDC)

In this role, you will:

  • Serve as a technical lead for substation design projects involving FACTS technology at various voltage levels (distribution, sub transmission, and transmission).
  • Utilize safety and regulatory standards (IEEE, IEC, NEC, NESC, NERC, ISO/RTO) to define project requirements, review deliverables, and collaborate with owner and OEM resources.
  • Conduct research to locate necessary white papers, brochures, publications, or standards for non-standard substation design aspects.
  • Communicate technical information to the project team, including stakeholders with varying levels of technical expertise.
  • Lead discussions with the owner engineering team to resolve technical or project management topics.

This is a HYBRID opportunity. Candidates must be located or willing to relocate to any U.S. Regional Office.

Responsibilities

  • Stay current and apply independent knowledge about departmental design guides, standards, systems, applicable engineering codes, and policies and procedures.
  • Apply knowledge and comply with quality programs.
  • Ensure compliance with quality programs.
  • Support continuous improvement and change management efforts.
  • Prepare complex engineering deliverables.
  • Conduct research and develop recommendations for equipment and materials selection.
  • Manage budget, schedule, and quality requirements.
  • Evaluate, select, and adapt engineering techniques, procedures, and criteria.
  • Review lower-level engineering work.
  • Oversee data collection, assimilation, and management for engineering work.
  • Lead smaller production teams and serve as the responsible charge for projects.
  • Coordinate with internal and external team members on moderately complex projects.

Preferred Qualifications

  • PE License
  • Substation Design - Physical & P&C
  • Quality Assurance and Quality Control of substation design projects
  • 5+ years of experience in electrical engineering with a focus on STATCOM/FACTS technology
  • Strong knowledge of electrical systems, power electronics, and control systems
  • General understanding of civil, site, system studies, settings, and telecommunication design
  • Experience with simulation and modeling software (PSCAD, PSSE, PSLF, etc.)
  • Familiarity with regulatory standards (IEC, IEEE, ISO/RTO, NEC, NERC, NESC)
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple projects simultaneously
