Lead Piping Designer
Position Overview: The Piping Design Lead will manage the piping design of large or mega industrial facilities. This role involves oversight of specific piping and design areas, collaborating with third-party resources including EPC and technology licensors. The individual ensures technical accuracy throughout all project phases, from conceptualization to construction, and is responsible for ensuring cost-efficient designs and optimizing solutions to maximize modularized equipment, shifting construction from the field to fabrication shops.
Responsibilities:
- Provide administrative and technical support for piping and design.
- Supervise and guide internal or external project designers.
- Develop cost-effective solutions for design execution.
- Create estimates, schedules, staffing requirements, workforce forecasts, and progress reports.
- Establish and monitor key material quantities; provide analysis and forecasts.
- Develop and review specifications, including design criteria.
- Participate in equipment and material procurement, permitting, and subcontracting activities.
- Analyze and make independent recommendations regarding solutions to complex problems in line with organizational and project objectives.
- Serve as Piping Design Lead on single or multiple projects or perform moderate to difficult design assignments.
- Collaborate with various stakeholders with tact, courtesy, and professionalism.
- Maintain regular, dependable attendance and high performance levels.
- Uphold a high regard for personal safety, the safety of company assets and employees, and public safety.
- Perform other daily, weekly, monthly, or special projects as assigned.
Qualifications:
Education:
- Associate's degree in pipeline drafting and design or related discipline, or equivalent global qualification, or twenty (20) years of relevant work experience.
Experience/Specific Knowledge:
- Experience managing piping design for large industrial facilities.
- Proven track record in managing third-party resources to design and optimize solutions for modularized equipment.
- Experience with large EPC or facility operators in the industrial facilities sector.
- Effective communication with management, coworkers, EPC firms, vendors, High Value Engineering Centers, module yards, and construction contractors.
- Knowledge of commercial availability and cost of materials.
- Understanding of US construction practices and design optimization for construction.
- Practical field experience at jobsites and module yards.
- Advanced proficiency in Smart Plant 3D and AutoCAD Plant 3D.
- Experience leading small groups and multinational engineering teams.
- Proficiency in MS Office applications, including Excel, Word, SharePoint, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
Certifications, Licenses & Registrations:
- Valid driver's license and satisfactory driving record for travel.
- Ability to perform all essential and marginal functions of the job.
- Capability to manage multiple tasks with strict deadlines and prioritize work effectively.
