Job Description

Title: Senior Engineer
Reports to: Team Leader

Function/Purpose
The Senior Engineer provides technical expertise and project management in consulting and engineering services. This role involves leading and managing teams, delegating tasks, developing project scopes, and providing cost estimates.

Responsibilities

  • Design 480 Vac power distribution systems from the power utility transformer to the main service disconnect, MCC, and loads.

  • Design motor control centers (MCCs) and associated motor control circuits for VFDs, soft starts, and motor starters.

  • Design PLC-based control systems, including wiring, installation, and start-up.

  • Develop construction drawings for control system installations, including instrumentation, power monitoring, PLCs, motors, MCCs, VFDs, and other control panels.

  • Conduct arc flash and selective coordination studies and provide recommendations to clients based on results.

  • Mentor and coach consultants/engineers on project work, providing regular feedback and guidance.

  • Offer subject matter expertise for project work, contribute to proposals, cost estimates, and project schedules.

  • Lead and manage project teams, assigning tasks based on individual strengths and performance.

  • Develop cost estimates, project schedules, and client-facing documentation (business process documentation, memos, presentations, scopes of work, etc.).

  • Manage resources, including identifying client needs and developing information, materials, and approaches for team collaboration.

  • Foster strong client relationships, identify opportunities for additional work, and participate in new project opportunities and business development activities.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Education: BA/BS in Electrical Engineering; Master's degree and PMP certification are a plus.

  • Experience:

    • 5+ years of consulting/engineering experience, preferably within the water and wastewater utility industry.

    • Knowledge of NEC, state, and local electrical codes.

    • Licensed professional electrical engineer in at least one state, with the ability to obtain licensure in additional states.

  • Skills:

    • Professional writing, presentation, and analytical skills.

    • Problem-solving, conflict resolution, and coordination abilities.

    • Coaching, interpersonal communication, and interviewing skills.

    • Experience in creating construction drawings and specifications.

    • Effective listening, organization, goal-setting, and relationship-building skills.

    • Adaptable communication style and effective team organizing.

    • Attention to detail and ability to be succinct and sociable.

Work Environment

  • The role involves multi-tasking across various client and internal projects with frequent in-person and video conference client interactions.

  • Significant computer/laptop use and long periods of sitting or standing during presentations and workshops.

  • The position is primarily home-office-based but also requires travel (approximately 50%+ of the time) to company offices and client locations.
