We are currently seeking a highly motivated and experienced Solid Waste Engineer to support a wide range of solid waste projects in Los Angeles, CA.


About the Role:

As a Solid Waste Engineer, you'll play a critical role in designing, managing, and monitoring systems that support the lifecycle of solid waste facilities, with a strong focus on environmental compliance and sustainable infrastructure. This position offers the opportunity to work on complex, multidisciplinary projects with clients across the public and private sectors.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Landfill Design & CQA Oversight:
    Lead or support construction quality assurance (CQA) efforts during landfill construction and expansion, ensuring compliance with design specifications and regulatory standards.

  • Methane Gas and LFG System Design:
    Develop and implement landfill gas (LFG) capture and control systems, including flare station layout, header piping, condensate management, and methane mitigation infrastructure for site safety and environmental compliance.

  • Leachate and Surface Water Monitoring:
    Design and implement leachate and surface water collection, sampling, and monitoring programs. Interpret data and prepare reports in compliance with state and federal environmental regulations.

  • Permitting and Regulatory Compliance:
    Prepare and submit permit applications, technical reports, and compliance documentation to local, state, and federal agencies. Coordinate with environmental regulators on permitting requirements and ensure adherence to air, water, and waste regulations.

  • Environmental Site Assessments & Reporting:
    Support Phase I/II environmental site assessments, groundwater monitoring programs, and corrective action plans as needed.

  • Project Management & Client Interaction:
    Collaborate with senior engineers, project managers, and multidisciplinary teams. Communicate effectively with clients, contractors, and regulatory agencies to ensure project goals are met on time and within budget.


Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil, Environmental, or related Engineering field

  • Engineer-in-Training (EIT) certification required

  • On track to obtain Professional Engineer (PE) license within 3 years

  • 5+ years of experience in landfill engineering, environmental compliance, and solid waste systems

  • Strong working knowledge of local, state, and federal environmental regulations

  • Proficient in AutoCAD, Civil 3D, GIS, and/or other engineering software tools

  • Excellent communication, technical writing, and problem-solving skills
