The dreaded Blue Monday is officially recognized as the most depressing day of the year. For those working in engineering and infrastructure in many parts of the US, factors like the cold weather and a lack of sunlight can lead to this depression. Whether you are working in an office or in the field, the dreary weather and the fading cheer of the holiday season can put you in a negative mood, and even impact your work. Don’t worry though, here are some tips to help you get through Blue Monday!
Staying positive on Blue Monday
One way to stay positive on Blue Monday is to visualize a goal in your future and give yourself a reminder of it. If you are dreaming of getting out of the cold and going on a nice vacation, print out a picture of the place you want to go. Keep it on your desk along, with pictures of family and friends to help motivate you to work toward that goal.
For those engineers out in the field, pay it forward and consider buying a coworker lunch or a good. Doing nice things for others is proven to improve your mood and overall wellbeing.
