This natural resources firm is expanding their wildlife team and are looking for a senior (project manager-level) wildlife ecologist with expertise in the wildlife species and habitats of the Central Valley and/or Central Coast.
About the Role:
As a wildlife ecologist, you will work on a variety of projects, including habitat assessments, wildlife surveys, and regulatory compliance. Senior ecologists will lead projects as the primary biologist, applying your expertise to ecological challenges across the Central Valley, Central Coast, and Sierra Nevada regions. Responsibilities will include overseeing ecological assessments, developing technical reports, and engaging with clients, regulatory agencies, and project teams. Project managers will also contribute to business development efforts and may serve as the primary liaison with clients and external stakeholders.
Key Projects and Habitats:
- Long-term monitoring and stewardship programs for conservation lands
- Renewable energy, infrastructure, and transportation projects
- Water projects, including drainage, conveyance, and groundwater storage
- Assessments of meadows and watersheds in the Sierra Nevada
- Integrated invasive plant management programs
- Regional Habitat Conservation Plans and large-scale conservation initiatives
- Surveying and monitoring species such as Swainson's hawk, San Joaquin kit fox, and giant garter snake
- Developing mitigation and conservation banks with private landowners
Qualifications:
- 4-8+ years of relevant professional experience, including at least 1 year in a management role
- Specialization in wildlife ecology
- Experience with federal and state biological permitting processes (California preferred)
- Familiarity with CEQA and NEPA regulatory frameworks
- Exceptional technical writing ability
- Strong communication and collaboration skills
- Willingness to travel and work in various environments
Compensation:
- Senior/Project Manager-level: $90,000-$115,000 annually
Compensation will be based on experience, education, and specific qualifications. A comprehensive benefits package and bonus plan are included.
