We are seeking a VDC Director to lead our Virtual Design & Construction efforts, driving innovation, efficiency, and precision in our project execution.
Position Overview
As the VDC Director, you will be responsible for leading and managing the Virtual Design & Construction team, integrating cutting-edge technologies to enhance project coordination, efficiency, and quality. You will work closely with project managers, engineers, and field teams to ensure seamless communication between design and construction, optimizing workflows and maximizing prefabrication opportunities.
Key Responsibilities
Strategic Leadership & Vision
- Develop and implement a company-wide VDC strategy, aligning with business objectives and project needs.
- Stay ahead of industry trends, emerging technologies, and best practices in VDC/BIM.
- Advocate for process improvements and digital transformation, enhancing overall efficiency and project delivery.
Team Management & Development
- Lead, mentor, and grow a team of VDC specialists, BIM coordinators, and detailers.
- Establish training programs to upskill team members and promote a culture of innovation.
- Foster collaboration between VDC, engineering, estimating, project management, and field teams.
Project Execution & Coordination
- Oversee the development and implementation of BIM models and workflows for mechanical systems.
- Ensure accurate clash detection, coordination, and constructability analysis to mitigate risks.
- Work closely with fabrication teams to maximize offsite prefabrication opportunities.
- Collaborate with GC's, engineers, and trade partners to optimize coordination efforts.
Technology & Process Optimization
- Evaluate and implement new software, automation tools, and AI-driven workflows to enhance efficiency.
- Optimize modeling standards, content libraries, and project templates for consistency and quality.
- Ensure seamless integration of VDC with estimating, scheduling, and project management platforms.
Business Development & Client Engagement
- Support preconstruction efforts by providing VDC insights during estimating and design phases.
- Assist in developing proposals and presentations showcasing VDC capabilities to clients.
- Build strong relationships with GCs, owners, and trade partners, promoting collaborative project execution.
Qualifications & Skills
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Construction Management, or related field (or equivalent experience).
- 10+ years of experience in VDC/BIM within the mechanical contracting industry.
- Strong expertise in Revit, Navisworks, AutoCAD, BIM 360, and other industry-standard tools.
- Knowledge of fabrication software (SysQue, Stratus, MSUITE, or similar) is a plus.
- Understanding of HVAC, plumbing, and piping systems in commercial and industrial settings.
- Proven leadership experience with the ability to build and develop high-performing teams.
- Strong communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to engage stakeholders at all levels.
