Job Summary:
The VDC Coordinator III - MEP is responsible for managing and coordinating the Virtual Design and Construction (VDC) process for Mechanical, Electrical, and Plumbing (MEP) systems. This role requires advanced knowledge of VDC technologies, BIM modeling, and collaboration with multidisciplinary teams to ensure efficient design and construction workflows. The VDC Coordinator III will play a key role in delivering high-quality, clash-free models and supporting project success from preconstruction through execution.
Key Responsibilities:
BIM Model Coordination:
- Develop and maintain detailed 3D MEP models using Revit, AutoCAD MEP, and Navisworks.
- Lead clash detection and resolution processes, ensuring alignment with architectural and structural models.
- Collaborate with design and construction teams to integrate MEP systems seamlessly into overall project models.
VDC Planning and Execution:
- Create and manage VDC Execution Plans, ensuring compliance with project specifications and standards.
- Generate 4D/5D simulations and workflows to optimize construction sequencing and cost estimation.
- Monitor and analyze VDC deliverables to ensure accuracy and alignment with project goals.
Team Collaboration:
- Facilitate model coordination meetings with internal and external stakeholders, including subcontractors and consultants.
- Provide guidance and technical support to junior VDC team members and project staff.
- Serve as the MEP subject matter expert during preconstruction and construction phases.
Process Optimization:
- Implement and promote best practices for MEP modeling and coordination.
- Identify opportunities for process improvement and efficiency gains through VDC technologies.
- Track and document project KPIs to evaluate the effectiveness of VDC initiatives.
Qualifications:
Education:
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
Experience:
- 5+ years of experience in VDC coordination with a focus on MEP systems.
- Proven track record of successful MEP coordination on large-scale projects.
Technical Skills:
- Proficiency in Revit, Navisworks, AutoCAD MEP, and BIM 360.
- Knowledge of 4D/5D modeling, scheduling, and cost estimation tools.
- Familiarity with COBie standards and other BIM deliverables for facilities management.
Soft Skills:
- Strong organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to lead meetings and coordinate effectively with multidisciplinary teams.
- Detail-oriented with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with prefabrication workflows and MEP trade coordination.
- LEED accreditation or other relevant certifications.
- Familiarity with Dynamo or other scripting tools for BIM automation.
