Job Title: Ultra-Pure Water (UPW) Engineer - Corporate Engineering
Reports to: Senior Plant Manager
Location: Mesa, AZ.
Position Overview:
The UPW Engineer plays a key role in the design, operation, maintenance, and continuous improvement of the Ultra-Pure Water systems at our chemical manufacturing facilities. This position is critical in ensuring a steady supply of high-quality UPW, which is vital for the production process.
Core Responsibilities:
- System Design & Optimization:
Lead the design, implementation, and optimization of UPW systems, ensuring they meet strict purity standards necessary for various manufacturing operations. Technologies utilized include reverse osmosis (RO), deionization (DI), filtration, UV oxidation, among others. - Operations & Maintenance:
Manage the daily operations of the UPW systems to ensure they run efficiently and with minimal disruption. Perform routine maintenance, troubleshoot issues, and implement corrective actions to prevent system downtime. - Quality Control & Assurance:
Regularly monitor water quality parameters, such as resistivity, total organic carbon (TOC), particles, and bacteria, to ensure compliance with internal and industry standards. Manage systems that regulate and maintain UPW quality. - Data Analysis & Reporting:
Analyze performance data from UPW systems, identifying trends and potential issues. Generate regular reports on system status and performance for both management and regulatory compliance. - Project Oversight:
Take the lead or assist in projects to upgrade or expand UPW systems. Manage project timelines, budgets, and coordinate with cross-functional teams, vendors, and contractors. - Regulatory Compliance:
Ensure that UPW systems meet all applicable regulations and safety standards. Prepare documentation and reports for audits and regulatory submissions. - Process Enhancement:
Stay informed about the latest advancements in UPW technologies and industry practices. Identify areas for system improvements, cost reductions, and process optimization. - Collaboration & Training:
Collaborate with engineers, production staff, and quality control teams to ensure the UPW systems meet the needs of the overall plant operations. Provide training and technical assistance to team members as necessary.
Required Qualifications:
- Education: Bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field. A Master's degree is a plus.
- Experience:
- 3 to 5 years of hands-on experience in operating and maintaining UPW systems, ideally in a high-purity chemical or semiconductor environment.
- In-depth knowledge of water purification technologies such as RO, DI, UV oxidation, and ultrafiltration.
- Familiarity with water quality monitoring and control systems.
- Skills:
- Proficiency in using process control software and tools for managing UPW systems.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to handle multiple projects and work well in a team-oriented setting.
- Certifications: Relevant certifications in water treatment, such as Certified Water Technologist (CWT), are a plus but not required.
Work Environment & Physical Demands:
- Work Environment: Occasional travel to remote manufacturing locations (less than 15%), adhering to cleanliness and contamination control protocols.
- Physical Demands: The role may involve standing for long periods, working with high-pressure systems, and handling hazardous chemicals in compliance with safety protocols.
