About Us: A leading construction firm specializing in heavy civil projects, including highways, bridges, and infrastructure development is currently seeking a skilled and experienced Heavy Civil Construction Estimator to join our team in Dallas, Texas.
Job Description: As a Heavy Civil Construction Estimator, you will be responsible for preparing accurate and competitive cost estimates for large scale TxDOT projects. You will work closely with project managers, engineers, and subcontractors to ensure that all estimates are comprehensive and aligned with project requirements.
Key Responsibilities:
- Review and analyze contract documents, specifications, and drawings to develop detailed cost estimates.
- Perform accurate quantity takeoffs for earthwork, concrete, underground piping, drainage, and other related projects.
- Identify bid qualifications, risks, and assumptions along with quantities and pricing.
- Ensure estimates and proposals are performed in accordance with company practices and standards.
- Participate in estimate reviews and presentations with the estimating manager and other department leads.
- Develop and maintain relationships with subcontractors and suppliers throughout the pre-bid process.
- Manage comparisons between self-perform estimates and subcontractor quotes.
- Analyze subcontractor and material quotes for responsiveness to the estimate and project requirements.
- Prepare value engineering solutions, including cost, schedule, and owner benefits.
- Provide rough order of magnitude (ROM) estimates and phasing schedules.
- Research and utilize applicable cost benchmarking data from historical projects into current estimates.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in construction/estimating, preferably on heavy civil related construction projects.
- Strong background in construction estimating software, such as InEight Estimate (formerly Hard Dollar).
- Basic working knowledge of earthwork takeoff software such as Trimble Business Center or AgTek.
- Proficient in PDF software such as BlueBeam.
- Thorough knowledge of TxDOT specifications and requirements.
- Excellent analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
