A national engineering firm is seeking a Trenchless Practice Lead in Canada, preferably in Vancouver, Calgary, or Toronto. The successful candidate will have 10+ years of experience working on major trenchless or underground construction projects.
Key Responsibilities:
- Project Management: Develop proposals, cost estimates, and schedules for trenchless and rehabilitation projects.
- Business Development: Identify project leads, discuss teaming opportunities, and leverage existing and new client relationships to secure ongoing business growth in Canada.
- Team Leadership: Lead teams and produce technical deliverables according to client specifications.
- Communication: Convey technical and non-technical information professionally, including participation in technical meetings and workshops with owners, contractors, and other stakeholders.
- Geotechnical Engineering: Design and construct municipal water and wastewater conveyance facilities using trenchless methods.
- Engineering Calculations: Produce structural and geotechnical calculations for trenchless design, including support of excavation, precast concrete segmental liners, cast-in-place concrete structures, and adherence to local and national codes.
- Technical Documentation: Prepare construction plans, specifications, design reports, and technical memoranda.
- Visibility: Increase the firm's visibility by participating in regional initiatives, conferences, committees, and community associations.
Field and Office Assignments:
- Field assignments may include weekday, night, and weekend work.
- Office assignments will require a standard weekday business hours schedule.
Minimum Requirements:
- Legally eligible to work in Canada and hold a valid Canadian Driver's License.
- Bachelor's Degree in a relevant area of study.
- 10+ years of relevant experience.
- Substantial expertise in the planning, design, and construction of trenchless projects.
- Registered Professional Engineer (P.Eng) or equivalent knowledge of trenchless construction methods.
Preferred Qualifications:
- 15+ years of experience, with a minimum of 10 years in trenchless or underground projects.
- Master's Degree in Civil, Geological/Geotechnical, Structural Engineering, or related field.
- Experience delivering trenchless solutions for projects in soft ground and hard rock.
- Experience with the inspection and design of rehabilitation measures for existing water/sewer tunnels and pipes.
- Expertise in trenchless projects in the Greater Toronto Area.
- Training and experience in project management.
- Experience in proposal writing and job scoping.
- Excellent problem-solving, decision-making, and teamwork skills.
- Strong technical writing skills and attention to detail.
- Effective communication skills and thorough knowledge of relevant technical codes, operations, processes, and trends.
- Ability to work independently, exercise judgment, interact with staff, collaborate with other disciplines, and mentor junior staff.
