Job Opening: Principal Bridge Engineer (Chicagoland Area)
We're looking for a highly motivated, productive individual to take charge of the Transportation Structural Department in the Chicagoland area. This role will require someone to serve as a Principal Bridge Engineer, overseeing all aspects of transportation structure design, from initial concepts to final construction.
Key Responsibilities:
- Manage the bridge group's operations, ensuring projects are delivered on time and within budget while maintaining high quality. This includes overseeing staffing, workload forecasting, safety, morale, recruiting, performance reviews, and marketing.
- Maintain accurate forecasting tools for workload and staffing.
- Drive the growth of the group through recruitment, business development, and the implementation of marketing strategies.
- Lead the development of proposals and new business opportunities.
- Motivate and guide the team to meet the department's goals.
- Engage with clients and professional organizations to build and maintain relationships.
- Oversee client management, project management, and technical support tasks.
- Ensure the group is familiar with all phases of project development, from planning through construction and operation.
- Mentor staff in key technical skills and professional development.
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree or higher in Structural or Civil Engineering (Master's preferred).
- At least 15 years of experience in structural/bridge engineering design, with expertise in steel bridges, long-span bridges, and bridges over water a plus.
- Professional Engineer (PE) and Structural Engineer (SE) licenses in Illinois.
- Strong theoretical knowledge of structural engineering principles.
- Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work in a multidisciplinary team environment.
- Must demonstrate integrity, character, and ethical behavior.
- Experience in designing various bridge types, including concrete and steel, as well as wall systems and minor structures.
- Familiarity with AASHTO LRFD, AISC, ACI, and other North American design codes and standards.
- Proficiency in software such as MathCAD, STAAD Pro, LPILE, LEAP Bridge, MDX, Bentley/MicroStation, Midas, LARSA 4D, or other bridge engineering software.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and commonly used CADD drawing platforms.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills with the ability to lead a technical design team, schedule resources, and collaborate effectively with project managers and leadership.
