Job Overview:
As a Heavy Civil Superintendent, you will be responsible for managing and supervising field operations on large-scale heavy civil projects. You will ensure that all work is completed according to safety standards, project specifications, and schedules. The ideal candidate will have strong leadership abilities, a deep understanding of heavy civil construction processes, and a commitment to delivering projects on time and within budget.
Key Responsibilities:
- Project Supervision: Oversee daily field operations on heavy civil projects, including site coordination, scheduling, and ensuring work is completed according to project specifications.
- Crew Management: Lead and manage crews, subcontractors, and vendors to ensure high-quality workmanship and adherence to safety standards.
- Quality Control: Maintain strict quality control over all construction activities and ensure compliance with contract documents, codes, and regulations.
- Safety Compliance: Enforce all safety protocols, conduct regular safety meetings, and ensure that work sites remain compliant with OSHA regulations and company safety policies.
- Project Scheduling: Collaborate with project managers to develop, monitor, and adjust construction schedules to meet project timelines.
- Budget Management: Monitor project costs, track material usage, and minimize waste. Provide input into change orders and budget adjustments as needed.
- Problem Solving: Quickly identify potential issues on the job site and resolve them to keep the project moving forward smoothly.
- Stakeholder Communication: Regularly communicate with project managers, engineers, subcontractors, and clients regarding progress, changes, and issues.
- Documentation: Ensure all daily logs, reports, and records are maintained accurately, including manpower usage, equipment, and material quantities.
- Equipment Management: Oversee the use and maintenance of equipment, ensuring that it is in good working condition and available when needed.
Experience Needed:
- 5+ years of experience in heavy civil construction, including roads, bridges, utilities, and large infrastructure projects.
- At least 3 years of experience in a supervisory role, managing field teams and subcontractors on large construction projects.
- Proven experience in managing project schedules, quality control, and safety compliance in the field.
- In-depth knowledge of construction methods, materials, and heavy equipment used in civil construction.
- Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, specifications, and contract documents.
- Strong problem-solving skills, with the ability to resolve issues quickly and effectively on-site.
- Experience working with project management software (e.g., Procore, Viewpoint) and Microsoft Office Suite.
Qualifications Needed:
- High school diploma or GED required; Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or a related field preferred.
- OSHA 30-hour certification required.
- First Aid/CPR certification preferred.
- Valid driver's license and reliable transportation to job sites.
- Strong leadership and team-building skills.
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks and prioritize effectively in a fast-paced environment.
