Overview:
A national architecture/engineering/construction consulting firm is seeking a Senior Mechanical Engineer with a focus on MEP system design and project management to join our team. This role offers the opportunity to collaborate with real estate owners, investors, and lenders across a wide range of projects, from multi-family and office buildings to government and community facilities. We are looking for a dedicated professional with expertise in mechanical, electrical, and plumbing (MEP) systems who can contribute technical proficiency, innovation, and leadership to our diverse portfolio.
This position is open in Chicago and one additional city, with a mix of remote and on-site work requirements. The role is remote for Chicago-based professionals, with significant travel expected across the U.S. Our anticipated starting salary range is $120,000 - $140,000, plus discretionary bonuses.
Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct property condition assessments (PCAs) and estimate probable costs
- Peer review building designs
- Perform energy audits, system commissioning, forensic evaluations, and MEP design evaluations (HVAC, electrical, plumbing, and fire protection systems)
- Engage in construction management and interact with clients and on-site personnel
- Work on a variety of projects offering unique challenges and the opportunity for impact
- Travel to project sites as required
Qualifications and Skills:
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering (BSME, BSEE, or BSAE preferred), PE license, and a minimum of 15 years' experience in MEP engineering design and evaluation
- Strong leadership and project management experience
- Extensive knowledge of HVAC and plumbing systems, with basic understanding of electrical and fire protection systems
- Working knowledge of national and state building codes, and experience in facilities engineering, energy audits, commissioning, and sustainability consulting
- LEED or CEM certification preferred
- Proficiency in software such as AutoCAD, Bluebeam, PlanGrid, and Box
- Exceptional organizational, communication, and multitasking abilities
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to operate standard office equipment and navigate construction sites, including rough terrain, ladders, and confined spaces
- Comfort with working outdoors in varying weather conditions
- Travel is approximately 25-50% for one location, and 50-75% for Chicago-based employees
