We are working with a fast growing consultancy that is seeking a Senior - Principal Geotechnical Engineer specializing in tailings. This position will play a crucial role in ensuring the safe and sustainable management of tailings facilities and requires a seasoned professional with extensive experience in geotechnical engineering, specifically focused on tailings management. You will be responsible for providing technical expertise, leadership, and guidance to support the design, construction, operation, and closure of tailings storage facilities.
Responsibilities:
Technical Leadership:
- Provide expert geotechnical input for tailings storage facility design, construction, and ongoing operations.
- Conduct geotechnical analyses and assessments to ensure the stability and integrity of tailings dams, embankments, and associated structures.
- Lead and review geotechnical investigations and site characterization studies.
Design and Construction:
- Develop and review tailings dam designs, including embankment and foundation designs, seepage control systems, and erosion protection measures.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to integrate geotechnical considerations into overall project designs.
- Oversee construction quality assurance and quality control for tailings facilities.
Risk Management:
- Identify and assess geotechnical risks associated with tailings storage and develop risk mitigation strategies.
- Participate in safety assessments and emergency response planning for tailings facilities.
Monitoring and Instrumentation:
- Establish and implement monitoring programs for tailings facilities, including instrumentation and data analysis.
- Interpret monitoring data to assess the performance and safety of tailings storage facilities.
Regulatory Compliance:
- Stay current with relevant regulations and industry best practices related to tailings management.
- Work closely with regulatory agencies to ensure compliance with applicable standards and requirements.
Business Development:
- Identify and pursue new business opportunities in the field of tailings management.
- Develop and maintain relationships with clients, regulatory agencies, and industry partners
Team Collaboration:
- Collaborate with project managers, engineers, and other stakeholders to achieve project objectives.
- Mentor and provide guidance to junior engineers within the geotechnical team.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in geotechnical engineering or a related field.
- Professional Engineer (PE) or Chartered Professional Engineer (CPEng) license.
- Extensive experience in geotechnical engineering, with a focus on tailings management.
- Proven experience in leading geotechnical aspects of tailings dam design, construction, and monitoring.
- Strong knowledge of relevant geotechnical software and analytical tools.
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
