An established engineering firm located in Boston offers HVAC, Plumbing, Fire Protection, Electrical Engineering, Code Consulting, and Commissioning services to leading businesses and institutions across the region. As a third-generation family-owned business, the firm employs approximately 87 staff members, with about 20 in its Plumbing/Fire Protection (P/FP) department.
We are seeking an experienced Senior Plumbing Engineer to support the P/FP department and collaborate with design teams in the production of construction documents. This role involves designing and sizing piping systems, performing hydraulic calculations, selecting equipment, and coordinating with architectural and structural building components.
Key Responsibilities
- Serve as the Lead Plumbing Engineer on projects.
- Oversee the production, documentation, and review of calculations (all plumbing systems), drawings, and specifications for assigned projects.
- Conduct construction administration tasks, including site visits, submittal reviews, and RFI responses.
- Build and maintain effective working relationships with clients and team members.
- Mentor and guide department staff.
Qualifications
- Minimum of 10 years of experience in Plumbing and Fire Protection Engineering.
- Professional Engineer (P.E.) license in Mechanical Engineering preferred; licensure in Massachusetts is ideal, with additional states (including New Jersey) as a plus.
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering (BSME).
- Comprehensive technical knowledge of plumbing systems, their applications, and relevant code requirements for various commercial, institutional, medical, and public buildings, including healthcare, biotech, higher education, offices, mixed-use residential buildings, and hotels.
- Full understanding of the Massachusetts State Plumbing Code and Fuel Gas Code.
- Proven management experience.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
