As the Senior Originator, you will be part of the team managing the company's origination portfolio in Japan. This role involves identifying business development opportunities, expanding the client network through structuring, pricing, negotiating, and closing both short- and long-term transactions with clients such as corporate and industrial consumers, electricity producers, and independent retailers. Additionally, the Senior Originator will engage in portfolio management activities to support the management of the commodity portfolio, including long-term PPAs and full supply agreements.
Tasks and Responsibilities:
- Build, develop, and manage a portfolio of clients (industrial, retailers, producers, wholesale counter parties, etc.).
- Identify and cultivate partnerships with other counter parties such as government bodies, regulators, financial institutions, etc.
- Structure new non-standard transactions in coordination with the company's risk appetite and support capabilities.
- Work closely with legal, credit, and VAT departments to secure necessary approvals and licenses.
- Provide support to support functions, such as Middle and Back Office teams, to ensure smooth deal and product on boarding.
- Foster and exchange best practices with other originators in different regions.
- Engage in portfolio management activities to hedge exposure, mitigate risks, and optimize the value of the electricity and natural gas portfolios.
- Follow business processes and adhere to the company's value set.
Qualifications:
Education / Further Education:
- Master's degree in Economics, Engineering, or Law / BA degree. An MBA is a plus.
Leadership Competencies:
- Broad network of professional energy and industry contacts in Japan.
- Ability to interact well and develop strong relationships with key decision-makers at assigned customers.
- Ability to build and maintain strong relationships with key internal clients such as risk, trading, structured products, originator peers, scheduling, structuring, credit, accounting, and legal.
- Ability to effectively manage multiple customers.
Professional Competencies:
- 8-10 years in the origination business or related commercial activities.
- Knowledge of economics, financial assets, and trading.
- Expert knowledge of the local energy market, including relevant regulations.
- Extensive understanding of global and Japanese energy markets.
- Experience in origination activities to identify new prospects and products.
- Ability to understand and explain structured products.
