Job Summary:
LVI Associates is seeking a Senior Mechanical Commissioning Specialist to provide technical and project/program leadership for the full life cycle commissioning of critical facilities. This role involves participating in MEP design reviews and functional testing of complex mechanical systems.
The specialist will collaborate with design engineers, construction contractors, equipment vendors, and client staff to test, validate, and operationalize newly installed mechanical systems, including those in mission-critical facilities.
The Senior Mechanical Commissioning Specialist will independently manage day-to-day tasks, lead project teams, coordinate activities of other personnel, and assist in developing policies and procedures. This role requires alignment with organizational goals, values, and departmental objectives.
Essential Functions:
Manage Commissioning Projects:
- Develop proposals including project scope, schedule, and budget
- Timely and effective management of multiple project teams
- Identify potential project risks and develop strategies to minimize impact
- Manage project scope to adhere to contractual and budgetary requirements
Manage Stakeholder Relations:
- Execute the firm's client value system and ensure project adherence to company policies and standards
- Serve as the primary client contact for one or more clients, potentially acting as a Client Program Manager with business development and marketing responsibilities
- Assist with research for technical papers for conferences and journals
Organizational Development and Continuous Improvement:
- Mentor associates and assist with training and development
- Contribute to organizational training and standards development
- Assist in strategic planning and hiring processes
Manage On-site High Profile or Escalated Commissioning Projects:
- Perform inspection, validation, testing, and verification of project means and methods
- Oversee functional testing of equipment and mechanical and controls systems
Completion of Assigned Tasks and Deliverables:
- Ensure tasks and deliverables are completed on time and within budget
- Perform other related duties as assigned
Requirements:
- Advanced Knowledge and Skills:
- Mechanical and controls system principles
- Proficiency in MS Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint, Teams)
- Exceptional organizational skills for file management
- Accuracy and attention to detail in assignments
- Effective communication and organizational skills for remote work
- Ability to follow company and site safety requirements
- Analytical skills for preparing documents, reports, and correspondence
- Effective oral and written communication (technical and non-technical)
- Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines
- Ability to work in interdepartmental groups and multi-role efforts
- Problem-solving skills to identify and implement effective solutions
- Planning and delegation skills
- Certification for NFPA70E and/or OSHA training as required
- Ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously
Physical Demands:
- Frequent manipulation, movement, or grasping of small parts, devices, or tools
- Stationary positioning
- Movement through various environments, including tight and confined spaces
- Ascending/descending stairs and ladders
- Occasional positioning under or over equipment
- Moving equipment weighing up to 50 pounds
Travel/Relocation Requirements:
- Heavy travel to local job sites, close to 75%
- Must be located near a major US airport
- Potential relocation opportunities based on project needs
- Possible international travel based on skills, training, and project needs
- Travel includes client sites, meetings, business development activities, industry conferences, etc.
Education/Experience Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in engineering, construction, or related discipline
- OR
- Two years' experience with installation, hands-on testing, validation, and troubleshooting of mechanical and controls infrastructure
- PLUS
- Minimum thirteen years' additional experience with installation, hands-on testing, validation, and troubleshooting of mechanical and controls infrastructure
