Position: Forensic Structural Engineer
Location: Remote/Hybrid, based in Georgia, USA.
Responsibilities:
- Conduct field investigations and analyze failures in various structures within residential and commercial properties.
- Determine the cause, origin, and extent of structural failures, water intrusions, roof damage, construction defects, and building system failures.
- Perform foundation settlement investigations, structural assessments, site evaluations, subsurface investigations, and vibration analysis.
- Apply engineering principles and practices in accordance with codes and industry standards, integrating spatial and unmanned aerial technologies.
- Prepare detailed reports documenting causes of failure, extent of loss, and recommended remediation.
- Provide expert testimony in legal proceedings to support conclusions.
Qualifications:
- B.S. degree in Structural Engineering, Civil Engineering, or a related field.
- Licensed Professional Engineer in Georgia or the ability to obtain licensure.
- At least 2+ years of experience in building assessments and failure analysis, with report preparation for property owners, insurance companies, and/or attorneys.
- Proficiency in structural systems and foundation design/analysis/construction.
- Experience with reinforced concrete, masonry, wood, and steel design/analysis.
- Knowledge of building codes and experience reviewing building plans and specifications.
- Familiarity with structural analysis software (RISA, STADD, etc.) is a plus.
- Willingness to travel and access multi-story roofs, crawlspaces, and attics.
