Position Overview: The Senior Development Engineer, Solar & BESS, will be responsible for the preliminary design and technical scope development for early-stage projects. This role involves managing internal and external personnel to provide optimized plant designs, cost estimates, and schedules. The projects typically include utility-scale solar and energy storage projects, as well as standalone energy storage projects.
Key Responsibilities:
- Serve as the technical lead and primary design and engineering point of contact
- Assess and communicate preliminary site constraints, cost adders, and schedule risks.
- Optimize equipment selection, including modules, inverters, and racking.
- Manage acquisition diligence requirements and costs for new opportunities.
- Represent the company in meetings and negotiations with clients, project developers, suppliers, consultants, utilities, and regulatory authorities.
- Support the competitive RFP EPC contracting process with design basis development, scope creation, and bid analysis.
- Conduct or oversee site walks to gather preliminary site assessment information for early-stage design and scoping documentation.
- Provide technical support and management for internal business development programs and initiatives.
Qualifications:
- B.S. degree in mechanical, electrical, or civil engineering, or a related field.
- 5+ years of energy industry experience, including 2+ years of direct EPC experience in the detailed design, permitting, and construction of solar and/or energy storage projects.
- Understanding of project design and optimization tradeoffs, market trends, equipment suppliers, and typical technical specifications and costs.
- Experience with standalone battery storage project design, optimization, and integration with other generator facilities such as solar or wind.
